I don't like Alaba as a part of the 3 man defensive line. We need him in attack and playing him there will mostly kill his offensive contribution

And I also think that you guys are underrating Dante a little bit. We don't know how fit is Badstuber, but even if he is in a decent/good form I still rate Dante as a much better defender than him.

I agree and see Alaba as a mid in the long run. With Dante, time will tell. There is a question mark over who will partner Boateng. Imagine saying that when we first signed Boateng.

Badstuber's injury could not have been predicted us the main reason were having this conversation.

Alaba has been pushing forward just fine from our friendlies. Just because he's the CB doesn't mean he's shackled to the back. He'll have to be more intelligent when he makes a run. If he ever becomes a CB, he's going to turn out much better than David Luiz. Box to box CB. False 3. Wait for it.

Last year we had a false 9, now we'll have a false 3 and false GK. :pep:

I think it would be a waste to have Alaba at CB (and 'm fairly confident that Pep wouldn't do that long-term). I don't care if he can get forward from that position -- in fact, I wouldn't want anyone in a 3-back formation to be concerned with getting forward! I think this will be Alaba's year, the year where he emerges as something more than a great fullback (or center back, lol)

This is something I agree with, Gotze is much better when playing in the middle.

Will also help more with transition plays and counter attacking. For all his skills, Kroos is not the player you want in a side when you are trying to launch a fast counter attack.

Nice, Götze at CM with Schweini and Thiago, I like :D
Sané ---- Lewandowski ---- Gnabry
Davies - Thiago - Kimmich - Dest
Hernández -- Alaba -- Upamecano
--------------- Neuer ----------------

So I am more convinced that it will be a 4-3-3

Götze losses too many balls to play in that CM role.

Bullseye. I see a 4-3-3 with Alaba moving from fullback to the midfield at sone point.

Granted who are the sure thing starters now? Robben, Lewa, Neuer, Boateng, Alaba and Lahm? Schwienstieger and Mueller should be on that list too but who knows what Pep is ever thinking.

Thiago when he's fit, and Martínez.
We have such an amazing squad, now its up to Pep to make it work.

That'd probably be our best possible team on paper.

Questions over questions...

Davies - Thiago - Kimmich - Dest
Hernández -- Alaba -- Upamecano
