Both Cases

But If Robben leaves , or Both leave

My Favorite would be (if Both Leave)

If Both Leave , We play like this

A)
---------------------------Neuer--------------------------------
Rafinha--------Boateng---------Badstuber-----------------Lahm
--------------------------Gustavo-------------------------------
--------------------Kroos--------Schweinsteiger------------
--------------------------Mueller-------------------------------
----------------------Gomez--------------New TOP ST

Or This

B)
---------------------------Neuer--------------------------------
Rafinha--------Boateng---------Badstuber-----------------Lahm
---------------------------Gustavo-------------------------------
--------------NEW TOP CM--------Schweinsteiger------------
------------------------------Kroos------------------------------
--------------------Gomez-----------Mueller ( as Second Striker)

Or This

C)

---------------------------Neuer--------------------------------
Rafinha--------Boateng---------Badstuber-----------------Lahm
---------------------------Gustavo-------------------------------
----------------------Kroos---------Schweinsteiger------------
---------------------------New TOP CAM-----------------------------
----------------------Gomez-----------Mueller ( as Second Striker)

FCBayernMunchen wrote:With Robbery that close on the field, we should see some magic. But Robbery are more comfortable on the wings. This is probably another "works in theory, fails in practice" idea.

Robben has no problem playing it

it is Ribery who does not want to play any position other than LM

This is how we should play

---------------------------Neuer---------------------------
Rafinha--------Boateng---------Badstuber----------Lahm
---------------------------Gustavo--------------------------
----------------Mueller-------------Schweinsteiger-----------
-----------Robben-------------------------------Ribery------
--------------------------Gomez-----------------------------
=========================
And I am still with my theory that WE DONT NEED WINGERS

and Ribery should go to CAM , and we should use 4-4-2 Diamond when A ROBBERY is injured

This is what we will be seeing, I think, at least until Gomez starts playing too bad to keep starting (hopefully that will never happen).

Much better formation- more attacking than before...hopefully we see kroos and schweini attack and score a few spectacular goals with gustavo in support behind them

Element, I have to say I am a fan of the possibilities of the formation in your signature.

1. Gustavo holding, and Tymo would be perfect to fit in there if needed.
2. Muller would link up well with Robben attacking and there would be ample room for Schweini creativity.
3. Schweinsteiger could also drop back with Gustavo, and have it be more defensive.

But, Gustavo did just score a pretty nice goal from an attacking position, a position he might not end up in often if in holding midfield and Muller might naturally be better in the slot behind the striker aka Mario Gomez.

Mueller would be free in the Right Side , and we can always sub Kroos in

and And Gustavos Shot can easily be performed by Mueller and Schweinsteiger

besides , Luiz Gustavo with Hoffenheim played that position and had many very good offensive runs , so dont worry

I like this more.. A small modification of 4-3-3
---------------------------Neuer---------------------------
Rafinha--------Boateng---------Badstuber----------Lahm------
---------------------------Gustavo---------------------------------
--------------Schweinsteiger--------------------------------------
-------------------------------Kroos--------------------------------
-----Robben------------------------------------------Ribery------
----------------------------Mueller---------------------------------
Schweinsteiger playing ahead of Gustavo, Kroos playing in a more advanced role.... Mueller as lone striker..

Whether we use this or the formation Ele proposed is entirely up to Gomez, I think. Although it is possible, and probably even more likely than this, that if Gomez plays bad Olic or Petersen will replace him before we move to this.

I am sure that Kroos will still get his minutes though.

I feel Schweini hasn't been comfortable with long shots lately. There are times where I just scream at him to shoot the damm ball. Kroos has gained an alternative CAM role just by not being afraid to shoot out of area, both pegs.

Interesting to see Gustavo was supposed to be RDM, not left. I would guess we will see him pairing more with Ribery than Robben after that goal on Saturday...

I think we will see Petersen strike for FCB against Zurich, not Gomez. Might be the reason he was not on the roster during the weekend.

I'd really love to see if our attacking midfield will play better with a more mobile player upfront. Petersen looks agile enough, so he'd do fine.

Agreed! Gomez is a great striker but he just doesnt fit with our system of inverted wingers. We need a player who has a great first touch and can make his way through a crowded box. Gomez has neither of those abilities. Thats why he plays better when ribery and robben arent playing. I really think Muller can play that role though. He may not be that strong with his head but how often do we cross the ball anyway? Id like to see him start up front against zurich this week to see how he performs.

How many matches did Gomez play last year and how many goals did he score when on the pitch with one or both of Robbery?

Can anyone find that statistic to validate (or not) the theory that Gomez can't play with them.

Such a statistic would be completely irrelevant, seeing as we had a whole different coach with a completely different philosophy.

But you said he plays better when ribery and robben arent playing so it should be relevant.

I thought he played pretty well when Robbery were on the pitch last year and figure the amount of goals he scored when they were is a good measure.

I hope Gustavo will be LDM with Schweini as RDM when Robben is playing. That way we have a left-footed player on both sides (Robben and Gustavo).

With Gustavo on the right, our left side was all right footed players last Saturday. If Gustavo had played on the left, it would have been the other way round.
