poor luck on the guy - he really deserves a greater mention in the history of football considering he was above Casillas in the early 2000s...

In fact, it's difficult to convey to younger fans just how tough the team we barely beat in 2001 actually was. Roberto Ayala was at the peak of his game, and the midfield of Baraja, Kily Gonzalez, Gaizka Mendieta and the maestro Ayala is one for the ages. And it was a time when John Carew wasn't yet a punchline of jokes...

You didn't mention that he played 2nd half against Bayern after he found out his mother passed away. The club was ready to substitute Canizares before the 2nd half, but he rejected and continued to play till the end and penalties. Incredible goalkeeper and also incredible personality. I was very young back then, but still I was very confused why Real threw him away. 3-4 years later I got the point.

2 CL finals in row and then one of the best coaches in the world started to decline - Hector Raul Cuper.

Luckily, we didn't face something similar in Wembley 2013 final, thanks to Neuer in the 1st half. [-o<
