America USA wrote:^ ah I forgot about that provision in the INA. So yes he is a USC. But still he was NOT born in the USA and I highly doubt he has spent at least a couple of consecutive years of his young life as a resident of the United States. This still means that he is a mercenary and is only choosing the US NT because he is unsure of his ability to be good enough to play for Die Mannschaft. He realizes that being a German born and raised Bayern youth product would raise his stock immensely for a weaker (and struggling) NT like the US Soccer team. Textbook case of Opportunism. Nonetheless still Sickening to me.

Why? Only because he decide to play for his father's country? And you can not know how much he felt German or American. His father is an US military man so is highly likely who the young Tillmans were both grown around the US headquarter at the Nato base, go to the American school with the other children of US soldier or if they attend a german school they surely still frequented the Nato base and the other american kids. You can not know how much he is American or not and most likely he and his brother growing up were exposed to a similar quantity of American culture and tradition who they wuold have growing up in an american home with a non-US parent

Not a good analogy there. Cat = FELIS Silvestris Catus and Horse = EQUUS Ferus Caballus
Both different species belonging to different animal families, genus and species.

On the contrary, a man born in both USA or Germany or anywhere is a Homo Sapiens. Member of the same family, genus and species. Tillman is as American as the DACA kid who came here involuntarily when he was a toddler.

@Isabella - Let's cut the chase and get straight to the point. The most important reason he is choosing to play for USA and not Germany is because he knows the competition to a NT spot in Germany would be much more difficult than that in the States. Also, his stock as a German born and raised Bayern youth will almost guarantee him a starting spot in the US MNT.

See how ridiculous this sounds with a simple example.

Two people are born and raised in America by American parents. We agree to call them Americans.

They move to Germany, have a kid called Alfred.
Alfred is, according to you, also American.

Alfred marries Alexia, also born in Germany to American parents. She is also, according to you, American.

Alfred and Alexia have a kid called Ben. Ben is born to two 'American' parents. So according to you, these are also American.

Ben marries a girl who also was born in Germany to grandparents who were born in the USA. Her name is Beatrice. Ben and Beatrice have a kid called Charles. Charles is, according to your theory, therefore also American.

You see where this is going. It's an infinite loop.

At one point it becomes more important to define your nationality as being the one where some of your ascendants 10 generations or so ago were born, rather where the 9 others that came after you were born and raised and lived their whole lives.

The biggest irony of the argument is that, if you really used it, then you can claim that nobody is American

This whole nationalities discussions are so utterly and recurrently ridiculous... Specially when people begin throwing around terms such as "sickening" and "traitor"... Fgs... Some take passports a little bit too seriously.

Well, yes I do. I seriously believe that someone who turns his back on the country where he was born, raised, educated and granted him a lucrative job deserves to be deported.

Not to me.

I compare what Tillman is doing to someone who finds a girlfriend at a super young age, spends all his time with her, she shows him great love, marries him, does everything for him, bears him beautiful children, but then he dumps her for the lady who lives across the street because she's willing to let him do anal.

Hence why I said he would deserve deportation, which in my analogy would be the wife filing for divorce and keeping the house and give him limited access to his kids.

I got another one. More straight to the point.

Germany did everything for Tillman. He should be indebted to Germany. Instead he is poised to sign a piece of paper which forbids him for ever representing the only country in the world that gave him everything.
