I can see it being lessened to a 1 year ban no fine.

Agree. And that is gonna be the final stone on the FFP's tombstone. FFP is just anti-competitive from a business POV.

FFP may sound like a barrier to entry but it does have merit. Football clubs are not like regular businesses/firms so it would be unreasonable to think they should be treated as such.

Also as someone mentioned City won’t be the first as AC Milan were recently banned from participating in European club competitions.

From what I have gathered José Narciso da Cunha Rodrigues was presiding the panel, he's a European court of Justice judge, very respected legal mind, he won't come to the CAS empty handed. City can be worried.

PSG inflated their revenues with a contract but a least it was in plain sight. The contract was re-assed (and ultimately almost abandonned since Accor is now their main sponsor), they were sanctionned and forced to find other revenues and cooperated with UEFA in the process. City decided to do worst by creating shell companies to hide that, then prevented UEFA from properly investigating. Too bad for them, now the hammer falls.

Milan have had their ban reversed on appeal in the past. I think this season they chose not to appeal it, but I might be mistaken. Basically they decided it wasn’t worth playing it anyway.

Milan was sanctionned by UEFA last year, they went before the CAS, the CAS said the principle of a sanction was fine but that it was excessive and asked UEFA to give a better motivation or to reduce the sanction. In the meantime, Milan negotiated a deal with the UEFA for a 1 year ban and the deal was validated by the CAS.

Man City’s violations in my opinion are much bigger than Milan’s imo and the CAS may not be as forgiving.

Well this is up to the CAS, not UEFA this time. It will limit the chances of there being dodgy business. I frankly don’t see how City don’t end up being worse of than Milan.

Milan failed to have a sustainable balance sheet so they were banned because they were loosing too much money.

According to the football leaks, City cooked the books and created shell companies to hide the fact that the money came straight from Saudi Arabia, then they refused to comply with the investigation. i'd say it's much worse.

Here’s an article about AC Milan [source]

If UEFA are using this as a premise to punish Man City then all that rhetoric about FFP being anti-competition or unfair is useless. They have shown they acknowledged FFP by using dodgy means to circumvent it. It would be completely different if UEFA just introduced FFP cause then City could say that the new rules are unfair. Instead they just went ahead to break the rules without care.

UEFA ban, the CAS delete the ban. Thats how things have always been standing in football.
It would be awesome to kick them out of the competition for 2 seasons. But if they reduce it to just one season, the point is not proven.
When you make great decisions, make them with a style and so loud that nobody can make them silent for very long time.
