However I blame the dreadful social media
Ideally you would be right, but got to remember these are mostly still kids (under 25), who grew up having absurd amounts of money and fame, and don't usually come from the best social backgrounds. Bayern's academy guys (Alaba, Müller, Basti, Lahm) are the exception rather than the norm; extremely well behaved and solid character guys. I'm not saying it's excusable, he did a dumb thing but if he is sorry, I don't see why not give him a second chance.
