Reading his comments and after having a look at the lineups, it really seems like Valverde was not interested on this match.

As a Barça fan I would be pissed off unless Barça comes back from the 2 goal deficit in the 2nd leg.

I'm fine accepting a defeat, but throwing away a competition just like that sucks. That's more understandable with small teams that don't have resources or enough good players for every competiton, but top teams should always aim to win every trophy

Either Valverde is so arrogant or he's stupid. The cup has always been a target for Barca, so I don't know what happened there to throw it away, or at least make their lives difficult.

Some time ago Ive read opinions from Barca fans and they don't care about this cup, they want to reach the CL final or at least the semis and with few less games to play they might be more fresh this time. They're annoyed at their team's form during Spring time in recent years.

But it's not right for a team like Barcelona to not care for a competition like Copa Del Rey, it's a valuable trophy to win.

If nothing else, Valverde is doing a great favor to some Barcelona fans since they don't like him very much and some of them think he must be replaced with someone else after this season regardless of his possible (lack of) success.

10-15 years ago winning the Cup was a huge achievement.

But even winning the domestic double is not enough for Barça fans as long as Real Madrid keep winning back to back CL's

Or in other words, as long as they watch Real Madrid as the best Spanish club ever and makes them frustrated.

They don't even appreciate that Barcelona are record winners in Copa del Rey.

Yeah... 12-15-20 years winning domestic double in all top 5 European leagues was equal to being a Fifa World Cup champion. That also says in what kind of condition is football as a sport when expectations over the last 9-10 years became so high.

Elite clubs take everything for granted these days because it has become a such a joke to win domestic titles in the last 10-15 years. Financial power, TV revenue, sponsors, sugar daddies, post-Bosman transfer madness... all this has made it possible and basically you can't see anymore Barcelona not winning La Liga in 3-4 straight seasons, Juventus Serie A, Bayern Bundesliga, PSG Ligue 1.

The only exception is the Premier League, more precisely - Manchester United after Alex Ferguson's retirement. I still wonder if Chelsea and City would have won their PL titles in the last 6 years in that number or United would have won again at least 2.

I think Real Madrid will won the Spanish Cup this year. Or perhaps an outsider like Valencia can win it for a change. Tired of seeing Barcelona dominate La Liga & Copa Del Rey.

War, blood, tears... That's what has been this round of Copa del Rey. It remains to see what's gonna happen tonight in Girona since Catalans are always fired up against Castellanos from Madrid.

But that was one hell of a drama at Mestalla 2 days ago.
