No offense, but these are also sports nobody else cares about
I mean I first heard of waterpolo on this forum... It’s easier to be competitive in a certain area when other nations focus on something else...
Ok it still sounds like an offense

Rugby. Granted but we should have a look at the team sheet.

Waterpolo is popular in southern european nations... but not only ... the Dutch are good at it , so are the US and Russia (about the latter I stand to be corrected)
And there is the Magyars, they are the record meisters
Although the team to beat these days are Serbia, Coratia, Italy and Greece and maybe Spain

Where are people going?? :D

I once saw this documentary of a small island in the Caribbean... Small enough to be walked around in way less than a day... After work people would just sit in their car and circle it for lack of entertainment...

Haha they actually are. In Malta many towns and villages run into each other so it'd be impossible to tell you're no longer in the same place if you didn't know (there is no connecting street or anything). These places all have streets where one half is in one village and the other is in another village. I live in such a street myself. :)

Regarding your comment on waterpolo and rugby: you are right that waterpolo is not very popular, although I don't think what you're saying applies to the population question. It's not as popular as football in Malta either, which means that much fewer children practice it (probably at least 20x more children play football with a club)... And yet we consistently produce good players. My whole point is that this small population thing is just an excuse.

My other gripe (investment is done only in football where we just suck and not in sports we are good at) is obvious when you consider that our infrastructure only allows us to have serious competitions in summer rather than throughout the season in waterpolo. The last time my team won a title, we had a player described as the best left-handed player of all time. That's the equivalent of having Messi play in Malta. If we invested properly and could have a proper season the Maltese waterpolo league could be one of the best. Instead, we have to settle for getting foreign stars just for the off-season.

Regarding rugby, I don't follow it much myself (although I recently started following club rugby) but I believe it's one of the most popular sports in the world. Looking it up now, only the FIFA world cup has higher attendance rates than the last rugby world cup. It's just not so played outside Commonwealth nations+Ireland+France.

Work, home, shopping, etc.

My drive to work takes 45 minutes. If there was no traffic it would take me around 10 minutes.

Went to watch my U21 NT play vs Sweden, the Ref was sooo tolerant vs the Swedes...
We played good football but unfortunately it was not enough... 4-0 for Swe

The Swedes scored immediately... and we were heading for ht but Swe scored a second from a clear offside pos.
The third was a soft goal and finaly a goal from penalty was the final goal of the match

My local team had an Europa league match at home vs a Faroe island tm...
We were leading by the visitors equalised at the very end from a corner.

We were at a disadvantage, they are in the middle of the season while we are only in pre season. It will be almost impossible to beat them away.

They are second in the league

Embarrassing. A town with a population of 4,740 will eliminate a town with a population of about 25,000
