So Kimmich at CB and Tolisso in MF then? :|

It's kind of wild, but it's a bad situation for Lucas. Of course it's mostly out of his hands, but still. Alaba legitimately can make a case for being one of Europe's top CBs this season, Davies is absolutely un-droppable in current form, the club is committed to Sule, we're wanting Upamecano, we have Pavard at RB/CB and want to add another RB, and even Boateng has been playing well lately. Even if Boateng's sold, say Upamecano comes - it's not all that unrealistic to suggest that Lucas could find himself 3rd-choice LB behind Alaba and Davies and/or fighting for 4th-choice CB with Pavard behind Alaba, Sule, Upamecano.

Kind of crazy to think that this is honestly a possibility for our all-time record signing at this point, but here we are.

I think we are being too fixated on Lucas "having to start", likely due to his price tag. At the end of the day, Alaba is currently better than him and I don't care who plays as long as they're the best.

With that noted, clearly, there's no reason to believe that Upamecano would be granted a free pass to the starting XI simply because he would be the marque player either, as Lucas was.

At some point, one of Alaba or Davies (hopefully not both) will be injured or dip in form that there will be an organic way for Lucas to come back to the starting XI. Nothing to worry about (other than, well, the inevitable Alaba or Davies injury).

I think if we finally go to a 3 in the back formation we can easily get Lucas/Davies/Alaba all in. Would love to see a back 3 of Lucas, Alaba, Upamecano with Davies at LWB and Kimmich at RWB. One day [-o<

As great as Alaba has been, it’s worth mentioning that Lucas was doing pretty well before his injury too. He will have to fight for his place and maybe even not win it back this season but I am confident he has a long future here.

Schalke's missing half their starting 11 and Nübel is in terrible form (will be dropped). Honestly there realy is no excuse even if we have to play Kimmich and Alaba at CB.

So, it's happened. Suele, Boateng and Lucas all out. But of course we didn't need Hummels.

Yeah we really don't need a €12m p.a. player for the absolute emergency.

We are lucky that Davies and Alaba happened.

I would put Pavard at CB and Kimmich at RB personally, but I expect Flick will want to move around as few players as possible.

At least we have Javi back it seems. We could still technically play 3 at the back:

Yes, that is also what he said in the press conference. I don't know if he related that to the subs against Hoffenheim only though.

I don't see the point in changing what has been working against Hoffenheim just to accomodate the injury of 1 player of that starting line-up, especially against Schalke who are in terrible form offensively and are missing half of their starting 11. Just move Kimmich to defense and put in Tolisso or Goretzka.

But we still have Paris... I mean Mai.

Spoiler: show
Lukas Mai is almost everywhere every once in a while except on the football pitch in Bayern senior team.

Well, one can argue that there's the more reason to experiment. Sometimes playing with 3atb would make us far less predictable.

Yeah, if this wasn't a Cup Quarter Final I might actually agree...
