Unless the league opens up to private ownership, I don't see it being anything other than a marketplace for the higher two in the following years. And to think it was a lauded model a few years ago. TV money screwed it all.

Thing is, even if they do, it'd be a case of too little too late I believe. All the 'good' owners have already taken over clubs in other leagues, so the Bundesliga would be left with scraps. Besides, why would a new investor take over, say, Mainz over a club such as Swansea which is playing in a league that rakes in far more money?

You are underestimating the amount of chinese and arab billionaires. Also iirc Hertha had at one point 10 offers from China, so there's clearly interest

No one could have foreseen this craziness, I think. Average prices doubled (or more) within just two years and I wouldn't be surprised if they keep skyrocketing in the near future because the English clubs can afford it.

MUTU warned about this 1-2 years ago. I don't think even he foresaw the insane commonplace transfer fees we're seeing now, but the inability to keep up with the income of foreign teams is something the Bundesliga should have already addressed.

Hmm... don't underestimate the attraction Germany has for those solely interested in making money.

Because buying Mainz would be significantly cheaper than buying Swansea.

It is a forgone conclusion that Germany has more national corporate investors willing to throw a lot of investments in football than most countries.

RB Leipzig and Dortmund are through, but it's still grim for the Bundesliga.

UEFA Country Coefficients 2017/2018:
England 17.071
Spain 14.714
Italy 14.166
Russia 11.600
France 9.333
Portugal 8.666
Ukraine 7.800
Germany 7.714
Austria 7.500

So the Bundesliga this season is somewhere between the Austrian and Ukrainian leagues. Truly embarrassing. And, despite German clubs eliminating 2 Italian clubs yesterday, they still have almost double the coefficient points for this season. In fact, these are the first 2 eliminations for Italy while Germany already had 4 clubs eliminated.

Well this year Germany started to lose teams in the preliminary rounds while all six italians passed without trouble (this year they were Napoli and Milan not the usual club who are in that place and lose), then all them passed the group stage (just Napoli had bad luck but still make EL knockout stages). Now for the round of 16 well Germany has three teams and Italy four, but the big gap is deserved because this year Bayern was the only German club to do his duty until now (BVB look out of the abyss and they play aginst little RB aka Salzburg so two clubs for Germany at the quarter finals are almost guaranteed and RBL also has chance to pass against Zenit) but the point is England need to be stopped...
City and Liverpool are already at quarters, ManU likely will go, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal have hard matches and can be all out in the next round

As from next season the top four leagues will have four teams guaranteed for the ucl group phase...
So unless Ligue 1 surpass BuLi there is no reason to worry...
