This just makes me shake my head. Goretzka is an absolute zero at the #10.
If Goretzka is performing well there, James is world-class.
Whenever I read something like this, I just shake my head.

As for set-pieces, I'm pretty sure we all know who our best set-piece TAKERS are: Lewandowski and James.

Set-pieces as in aerial threat (and defending too!) in corners, free-kicks (and crosses.)

It's not like we score more than one or two direct free-kicks per season, so whether the left-footed player who will waste them is Alaba or James is of no relevance.

I hope that James proves me wrong, but the guy is too slow to player counter-attacks effectively, or to show stellar performances against good opposition that doesn't park the bus. It looks that Kovac is only hesitating because the alternative is playing Javi who is underperforming this season.

Look at this beauty.

Goretzka (and Lewa) defended the corner in the our box, and seconds later were at the opponent's box, receiving Alaba's cross. No slow-buildup, no useless passing-around. Straight to the point.
Black magic.

So Goretzkas one or two goals after set pieces count, but not our one or two direct free-kicks per season.
OK.

If James hasn't already proven you wrong. He never will. I don't know how much more you can ask from a number 10.
I have nothing against Goretzka, but he sucks as a number 10. It doesn't even matter where he plays, because he plays the same on any position. Hardly any presence, just running. Never saw Goretzka play a great opening pass forward in my life.

And about those "beauties". It would be an easy task for me to find more highlights of James in one season than for Goretzka's entire career, so let's not start with this, okay?

Just look at the first goal, we win the ball, then "slow build-up" with James, boom... No way.

Wait so you are saying Goretzka sucks everywhere but earlier you liked my post saying Goretzka must play. Am I missing something or are you saying that the alternatives suck even more?

That's not what I said.
Goretzka is playing the same way on any position, but the way he's playing is not what should be asked from a number 10...

For the record, I think Goretzka is twice the box-to-box midfielder Schweinsteiger was at the same age. In fact he wasn't even trusted in his natural central position by that age but still played as a winger AFAIR.

Goretzka is a weird player though.
Yes, he scored goals. But his finishing is poor. He doesn't play key passes, he doesn't play long passes. He's decent defensively and he runs a lot.
I think he's a good player when the team is functioning well, but while he might be twice the player Schweini was at his age, I also think that Tolisso is twice the player that Goretzka is... Let alone James when we're talking about a number 10.

Tolisso can be compared to Goretzka, and I agree that he's better (though not twice), but I still don't understand why James is being included because I regard him totally different to Tolisso/Goretzka.
