Shame, it really doesn't feel like they even tried to win from the parts I watched. Maybe they really would rather have a 10 day break than a chance at the FA Cup.

I don't blame them, really. This *rematch* thing they have is absurd. Especially for their country and first league. I think it was also Liverpool some years ago that had 2/3 rematches in one season. Imagine adding that to the Premier League and European Cup schedule.

He specifically said something along the lines of him being confident of going through "because of the rest". Now this is a professional who knows the advantages and disadvantages of resting period and he is so convinced that it gives Liverpool an advantage.

It's gonna be a tough next 3-4 weeks for Liverpool, though. Except Van Dijk, all CBs they have are injured. Of course, their next three games will be against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester... Man, even when they have injuries they somehow have luck on their side

How many times we already discussed the factor "rest" in here and it never made an evident impact...
Sané ---- Lewandowski ---- Gnabry
Davies - Thiago - Kimmich - Dest
Hernández -- Alaba -- Upamecano
--------------- Neuer ----------------

Of course it does make a difference! John Arne Riise clearly told me this morning he thinks Liverpool will go through thanks to this rest. He made it sound almost like it is the most important factor. This guy knows what recovery time and rest means, even from a psychological point of view.

It makes some difference but it's not the key factor.

Besides Bayern is resting now and charging batteries before the second half of the season while Liverpool are playing. And you will have 4 days rest before the first leg. It's more than enough for professional players to be ready for 90 minutes. If you had the game against Augsburg on Saturday than okay but it's on Friday, so Bundesliga helped you with the schedule. It's all good in my opinion.

If it's that important, and we're confident, and we have good enough quality, we'd rotate heavily with enough assurance to beat Augsburg.

The line up could easily be: Ulreich - Rafinha, Hummels, Mai, Davies - Sanches, Javi - Gnabry, Mueller, Ribery - Wagner. There will also be other Bayern II players, as well as dare I say Hudson-Odoi and potentially even Pavard or Lucas.

This would save those I consider to be our best XI players for Liverpool: Neuer, Kimmich, Boateng, Suele, Alaba, Thiago, Goretzka, Robben, James, Coman, Lewandowski. Not even counting Tolisso.

But we know we won't field the above against Augsburg. The schedule's not the problem.

If we keep playing the same squad for 4 weeks straight maybe it will. Good thing is that there's rotation.

Liverpool have a bit of a headache in defence at the moment.

We've already determined that Virgil Van Dijk will miss the 1st leg through suspension. However, yesterday Dejan Lovren injured his hamstring and it's not yet known how long he'll be out for, but he joins fellow central defenders Joël Matip (out since 12th December with a collarbone fracture, expected back next week) and Joe Gomez (out since 6th December with a fractured leg, expected back late January) on the sidelines.

If Kovač does what he did at the start of the season, then yes.

Otherwise:

At least, this time he (sorry ramsej84) *touch wood* should have a wider selection of players to choose from because the injury situation is getting thinner and thinner.
