This is a ridiculous schedule. They should have used at very least two locations. Someone who played the QFs on the 12th could get paired against another that played on the 15th, and the semifinal could be played on the 18th.

Or maybe there will be one draw so that the above scenario cannot play out.

I just want to know what they’re doing about the second legs of the last 16. If it’s supposed to be at the home grounds of the teams as normal it opens up a load of problems especially where British teams are involved. 14 day quarantine for anyone arriving in the uk and in return the same for anyone arriving in other countries from the uk

Last 16 should be played in July. It is unfair to have teams potentially playing 4 games in 2 weeks while others play 3 just because UEFA plays the last 16 on different weeks for money.

This year's event should be cancelled ... full stop.

UCL format may or may not help us, who knows. It's not my favorite, but think of it like this: with this UCL format, we are at MOST 6 wins away from a treble (Chelsea, QF, SF, Final, Bremen in BL, Leverkusen in Pokal). And truthfully we don't necessarily have to win vs Chelsea, and I believe if BVB were to lose this weekend I think we could win league without beating Bremen, either. So perhaps as little as 4 wins stand between us and a treble now. So like I said, it's not my favorite format, but still it's a big opportunity for us.

With this format the likely winners are either A.Madrid u Rubentus

We could lose all matches in the BL and still win the league. We are at LEAST 4 wins away from a treble, all 4 of which could be on penalties after extra time.

Out of all the teams left, Bayern are the ones more used to playing single leg knockout matches with extra time and penalties.

Plus Bayern look naive in these circumstances... Atl are the experts and you know it, juve come the closest

Why should I know it? In fact, I think the complete opposite, given you mentioned the two teams who are experts at LOSING in 1 leg matches in the Champions League (finals). In fact, I'd say it specifically hits those two teams worst. And Juventus need to eliminate Lyon first.

I don’t see any logical reason why this format should favour Juve. At all.

It maybe helps Atletico a little bit because they only need to defend in one game instead of two... but the fact that they can no longer qualify with a draw works against them. Their counterattacking style likely means they’ll be more tired in ET. And anyway, Atletico aren’t a concern for Bayern unless we fuck up ourselves. Only ramsej still thinks they are the best team in the world because of their fighting spirit. BVB and Leipzig are better. I’m sure ramsej wouldn’t be worried about Sevilla or Real Sociedad winning the CL, both of whom have been better than Atletico. It would be beyond embarrassing if we were to be eliminated by a team which likely won’t even qualify for the EUROPA League next season.

@aterford: the format is neutral imo. It can help and it can work against any team. The complaints aren’t about the format as such but the horribly unfair schedule. WHY do quarter finals need to be played over 4 days? At least 2 a day if you don’t want to play at the same time!

Even the World Cup QFs, watched by much more people, are played over two days.

I fear the break between the end of our season and the Champions League will kill our chances whereas competitors from Spain and England will smoothly transition from the end of their regular season into this CL tournament. A gigantic competitive disadvantage that is not easy to overcome.
