You have forgotten that all teams want to play at home in front of their fans once this pandemic is over.

3 wins 3 wins 3 wins...

It’s official guys. If we win the CL we will be the first team ever to have won every game.

I think we will also equal the most wins in a CL season if we win the next one.

I admit I’m looking forward to it but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the CL we know and love. Maybe a tournament that happens every 2 or 4 years that is just a KO.

I'd still take the two-leg format, but I love the timeboxed Champions League after the end of each league. Maybe keep the group stages through the league season, then knockout tournament after. Hoping it stays.

If we keep this format everyone lose...

much more expensive for the fans

less games and money for UEFA

less TV money and ticket sales for football clubs

some clubs will just park the bus to get to the penalties

never going to happen

We are going to watch the regular format next season.

We should have been watching the start of 2020/2021 right now, CL & EL qualifying round for the last 3-4 weeks and we are still in 20/21 and we missed the Euro 20'. :D

Not normal at all.

Two large groups (ten each)
Top four qualify for the QF
Maybe the home and away can be kept instead of just one ko match

Why do you think the final - as opposed to the rest of the competition - is played in a neutral venue in the first place? Where about half if the - immensely expensive - tickets are sold by UEFA directly? Why do you think Blatter spoke of being an NPO so often?

Big news: FIFA and UEFA generate money through their competitions... And when they play in neutral venues, they usually pay none of the costs but take most of the income... Which then consequently is not revenue, but income...

I understand your point but I have to disagree. Ticket sales are not comparable to revenues from selling broadcasting rights worldwide. See UEFA's income statement https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/OfficialDocument/uefaorg/Finance/02/63/95/00/2639500_DOWNLOAD.pdf

With this format you would have 6 games less...and we are not talking about Bate Borisov - Olimpiakos. For this year we are talking about:

- Bayern vs Barcelona
- Manchester City vs Lyon (could have been Juventus)
- PSG vs Leipzig
- Atletico Madrid vs Atalanta
- Bayern/Barcelona vs Manchester City
- let's say PSG vs Atletico Madrid

these are all matches with high TV shares. Even non-football supporters would watch Bayern - Barcelona on TV. Next year it could be Real Madrid - Barcelona or Real Madrid - Atletico etc.

Besides, we all know that most finals in the last decade have been boring. I'd argue that KO games would be less exciting and attractive compared to the standard UCL format.

This will lower UEFA's revenues from tv rights and I highly doubt that ticket sales would compensate it.
