Well put and completely agree.
The point about counter attacks is specially relevant. There are atleast 6 teams in the comp that are clearly better at us when breaking at speed from defence or in transition and I'm saying this after considering the presently injured Coman in the Bayern first XI.

Welcome to the forum
Aye that's true, but I think most of the critique the competition gets is due to it's name. If it was called, say, UEFA Best In Europe, nobody would have any qualms about it.

If the the ones who will run it are like the ones who do so in Germany; the UCL will become a big comedy

You mean it currently isn't a big comedy?

In reality, in a very worse case scenario, the referee will make just as many mistakes as he is doing now.

Oh really? Where did they finally decide to build the central control room?

While taking three times as long to make those same mistakes.

Let's say the referees and VAR team have been bribed compared to now; this is an extreme worst case:
- Player from team X is fouled in the box. Referee doesn't whistle. VAR fails to spot it.
- Player from team Y scores and linesman pulls up flag for a non-existent offside. Referee whistles for offside. VAR fails to spot it either.

What you're saying is only possible if the referee is the only one who is bribed. The VAR team would be trying to correct his 'mistakes', make him watch, but he sticks to his own bad decisions. There's a limit to how much he can do this with VAR. If it's too obvious, that's the end of his career. I mean imagine the VAR team showing Marcelo's blatant handball in the box against Bayern and, even after watching it on the VAR screens, still decides NOT to award the penalty.

Which, more often than not, seems to be the case. Not that the referee is the only one bribed because you can't tell, but at least the only idiot.

I never really buy this to be honest. I know that you refer to this quite often and I get it, "if the system works, referee can get away with fewer stuff", but I really find that hard to believe. Hardly ever seen a referee punished for anything unless it's something as severe the Oxlade-Chamberlain/Gibbs thing. Criticism and ridiculing goes on the media for 2 days and that's it. They're showing no signs of trying to be more careful either.
