I think English football are actually trying new ideas. Look at the U-19/17 sides of the ENG NTs, and Spurs, City and Chelsea youths. It is hard for the English football people to realize they have been left behind and take measure as a pursuer. It seems they have accepted it. I appreciate their mindset.

However, the overconfident atmosphere created by the English media may still be harmful for English football.

The success of the England youth teams is a positive sign, and good luck to them. They are all on the books of clubs like Liverpool, City and Chelsea, but the chances of them playing regular first team football for these clubs are unlikely when they can just go out and spend 50m on some South American or whatever. So they are then just sold or loaned out to lower PL clubs or lower league clubs where the standard of football isn't as high and they learn to play the typical English way. Admittedly that isn't the fault of the elite clubs. English football as a whole needs to change its approach to playing the game

You even get other clubs' fans saying they "want the English teams to do well". Why? They're rival clubs who suck money out of the game lower down the English league system so smaller clubs can never progress! A strong PL top 4/5/6, whatever it is, is bad for English football as a whole as it means the rich get richer still so they can keep buying expensive players from abroad and neglect young English players.

Here in Malta I keep reading we will have 2 English teams in the final.

Anyone willing to take up a bet against me that there will be 0-1 English teams in the semi final?

I think quite the contrary. Big wins can give them confidence, but overconfidence can be lethal. We are completely a different team now, compared to the ridiculous pre-season Bayern. Pool's overconfidence, if grown to a state they think we are Shakhtar level, will be their undoing. Their defense cannot handle Lewa and his friends.

My Liverpool friend is only afraid of us. Confident against Real and Juve

last time they had five (I stand to be corrected) the final was played between Man U and Chelsea

Barcelona have started to bother me a bit. Messi has been excellent since the season started, Suarez is scoring again and the Dortmund import too is doing fine. Ter Stegen is doing a decent job in goal too and Pique/Umtiti is a very good CB pairing. This new coach of theirs has made them more solid defensively. Bayern would need to be at full strength if we are to face them in the CL. Although at the start of the season I wanted Barca in Bayern’s group now I want to avoid them at least until the semifinals. Hopefully they get City or PSG/Real next.

The only saving grace is that Coutinho cannot play in the CL for them.

True, and you can't deny the fact that we've been true contenders in the last few years. Just like this year

Erm... Yes I can... We were nothing of the sort last year... And I‘ve been getting heat from you and others for years - any idea what the reason might be? ;)

Really? We weren’t last year contenders last year? Why? Just because we were out in the quarter finals? So care to explain me why a crippled Bayern was the only team who was close to beat Real (and that with many of the key players of the team injuried or not fully fit and referees who were clearly pro Real, specially at Madrid), if we we were not contenders? For being real contenders for the CL you do not need to arrive at the end of the knock-out stages you know? You can also had a lot of bad luck with the drawing and going out in the quarters (like us and Barca last year, or you are telling me who last year Monaco was a more serious contender for CL than Barca or Bayern)? And any club who in five years can reach always the semi finals of CL (and miss the sixt for a bad draw) is surely a contender in my books.

Yes, Monaco WAS better last year!
Also we were plain shit! Close to beating RM? Again, watch the games... We basically converted every shot... They could’ve scored 7 or 8 in Munich alone and another 5 in Madrid... What you guys did and do with those games is pure eyewash!

Now this year we might have a better job, but in my book it’s 60-70% our current coach... We‘re not playing very well, and Bundesliga is shit... But we‘ve learned to fight again...

They had not scored that goals and if we had something like I do not know Hummels, Boateng, Neuer, Muller and Lewandowski fully fit (and they were not because they were all rushed for either the first or the second match) maybe we wold have been able to win... Key players missing, referees mostly against us and they still needed offside goals and extended time for winning. And Monaco against us wuold have lost 9 times of 10 (they win against Dortmund mostly for the bombing against their bus). For winning UCL you need alsoa lot of luck, if you still have not learned it... And if five semifinals in six years (with a final win and another lost) is not enough for been contenders well who are yours contenders? Real, Barca and nobody else?
