I think English football are actually trying new ideas. Look at the U-19/17 sides of the ENG NTs, and Spurs, City and Chelsea youths. It is hard for the English football people to realize they have been left behind and take measure as a pursuer. It seems they have accepted it. I appreciate their mindset.
However, the overconfident atmosphere created by the English media may still be harmful for English football.

They've just had a five minute debate about which PL team has the best chance while ignoring the game going on in front of them
You even get other clubs' fans saying they "want the English teams to do well". Why? They're rival clubs who suck money out of the game lower down the English league system so smaller clubs can never progress! A strong PL top 4/5/6, whatever it is, is bad for English football as a whole as it means the rich get richer still so they can keep buying expensive players from abroad and neglect young English players.

I don't wish to face Mane Salah Firmino Coutinho
I think quite the contrary. Big wins can give them confidence, but overconfidence can be lethal. We are completely a different team now, compared to the ridiculous pre-season Bayern. Pool's overconfidence, if grown to a state they think we are Shakhtar level, will be their undoing. Their defense cannot handle Lewa and his friends.

Here in Malta I keep reading we will have 2 English teams in the final.
Anyone willing to take up a bet against me that there will be 0-1 English teams in the semi final?

True, and you can't deny the fact that we've been true contenders in the last few years. Just like this year

Erm... Yes I can... We were nothing of the sort last year... And I‘ve been getting heat from you and others for years - any idea what the reason might be?
