Yup, you should checkout his transfer thread, how folks were drooling over him coming to Bayern and how it was a transfer steal and how we'd surprise opponents with his outdated box to box style. #-o

There is 1 requirement you cannot do away with in modern football for a midfield player, i.e holding on to the ball for 3-4 touches.
Goretzka is just absolutely woeful at his. I don't care if he gets into the box makes headers has a good eye for goal etc, he is only going to be doing that against the likes of Frieburg (sarcasm if you missed it), not against a top level team.

Just another poor jack of many trades type of player like Muller. Actually, that is a disservice to Muller . I'm not his biggest fan, but at his best 3-4 yrs ago, Muller's workrate and recovery of possessions in the attacking half were world class. That and his movement, let other attackers around him do serious damage.

We are not going to be winning many games against any opposition with players like Goretzka + Muller both on the pitch, who aren't world class at at least one thing.

He reminds me of Tolisso when he first showed up here, great eye for goal but can’t control a match to save his life. The difference is Tolisso had enough ball control that he was able to grow into the role demanded of him.

Well, Tolisso was mentored by Jupp.

Goretzka has now Kovac :-&

Even when he plays with Germany he's a much better player

What pathetic match ratings by BILD. They are claiming that Freiburg was better than Bayern in every part of the pitch and would therefore wholly deserved to win the match?

No they are claiming that Freiburg applied themselves and Bayern didn’t...
- Rangnick or ten Hag in!
- Bring a DM, a winger (Sané) and Havertz!
- Get a REAL sports director (Rangnick?)!
- Keep Hoeness and Rummenigge far away from the team!

Yup, and also Tolisso started to put in some solid defensive displays without the ball. Goretzka has to start doing that if we want's a MF role.
A midfielder that can't hold on to the ball and isn't great at tackling without it. We sure know how to pick them.

This is not an endorsement of Kovac's handling of Goretzka, but he is a much better player for the NT against the likes of Australia/etc,i.e
second tier teams.

Against the Dutch last week, the game simply passed him by. If the guy can't dribble and hold the ball in central midfield, I don't know what Low expects to happen by pushing him into AM.

No they are claiming that Freiburg applied themselves and Bayern didn’t...[/quote]
That's not how ratings should work. Ratings should depict how well players played in general rather than an "oh but player X was bought for peanuts and came up against player Y who broke a transfer record. He almost managed to hold him, so let's give him an incredibly high rating".

Bayern were still the better team on the pitch despite performing worse than expected. The ratings should depict that Bayern were better and in general should loosely match xP / xG.

Best player on the field can't alone win the game for you.
How many times in your fan boy life saw man of the match belong to the defeated team?

James did everything for his role: create chances, distribute balls, open attacking plans, dribble through opponents...
based on the chances Lewandowski and Gnabry missed, I could say he had a good performance that day.

No I didn’t... But he LITERALLY wrote that players cannot decide games on their own!

As for James, I think he’s ok, great marketing player, but in CL he has left a lot to wish for... We don’t need another player to destroy BL, but another coach... So I'm torn: If we get a top class CB or winger instead, we don’t HAVE to sign him at all costs...

Obviously, it’ll take years to even consider challenging for CL, so we might as well wait another year for Havertz, will be a transition year anyways...

any player can decide the game but on their own only? no. 100% no, that why Argentina always suck with Messi leading the team and Portugal won the EURO by a goal from avarage player, not Ronaldo.

My point here is James could be man of the match of this game and Bayern performance can be rated as poor.

Overall, I think he is also a great asset in term of football, not only marketing. He can be a game changer but the team needs to optimized for him, which, I think, Kovac doesn't have ability to do.

Compare to another players(same role, same age) at the moment, with the price we must pay to buy him, it is a real deal, to revenge the Kroos's deal I could say.

I mean, what else he could do to prove people that he is as good player and worth to buy for 42M only?

man of the match should have been Schwolow. maybe the standards have been set so low that that performance by James is considered something special, but i'm thinking that the team should be held to a higher standard. for what it's worth, individual performances probably have the same amount of impact on a baseball or basketball game.
