I am what now? Are you even following this "discussion"??

In the interest of keeping this thread about the game I would propose you either pm me or choose another, more related thread like general chat...

YlonenXabi wrote:I see a very good tactical movement here.

Kimmich is being pressed by 2 or even 3 Schalke players at times when we play from the back. So what we are doing is shifting to a back 3 in defense with Alaba moving to a more central role where he is usually free. 3-2-4-1 in possession and then we go back to a back 4 when defending.

It makes perfect sense because

1- Pavard can play both RB and CB
2- Alaba is originally a CM
3- Lucas can play both CB and LB

And it gets even better because at times we keep the back 4 with Alaba playing wide as LB. So basically Schalke have no clue what to do.

Last year we would have been screwed because Kovac would have had no answer for that Kimmich man marking. But today Flick came up with a very good and effective solution

We just lack some quality (Thiago, Coutinho...) but the tactics have been spot on so far in the game.

Thanks for this. I only watched the beginning of the game and wasn’t too happy but I was pleasantly surprised by the result and was hoping to read about what went on (instead I got dozens of posts with insults).

To me on paper the lineup screamed 3-3-3-1 or 5-4-1 rather than Pavard at RB and Kimmich at midfield.

Some good things and also some bad. We seem to have no idea about what we are going to do when we attack and depend on individuals. I think that will haunt us when we meet the big teams. Some of our players (hopefully) can do better when the team settles more. For me Lewandowski is the best striker in the world and Coutinho looked promising. Lucas-Sule can be a really solid duo. As I said mixed feelings but three points is enough for now.

I haven't seen the match, because I had a barbecue with friends. Yet, I have a gripe anyway. Why, with the match already finished (3-0) did Kovac put on Javi instead of Cuisance to give the latter some experience with the team? Is he trying to repeat the Renato Sanches fiasco?

Because Cuisance can't play CB.

I guess Kovac didn't want to give the full 90' to Lucas Hernandez and that's why he brought Javi in. After all Javi also needs playing time as he is our only CDM

It was more that Lucas needed to be subbed out.

Yes, Lucas could have been subbed out, Pavard could have moved to central defence, Kimmich moved to RB and Cuisance could have slotted in at midfield.

With the players on the pitch, needing to sub out a CD is no excuse for not subbing on Cuisance.

That's the kind of substitution Pep used to do. Too advanced stuff for Kovac, give him a couple of decades and he might be there.

I never attended any football coach class but already think about it, before Kovac did his sub with Javi...Don't be too hard on him. Maybe he doesn't want to shake the formation too much when everything was fine.

Kimmich to RB Pavard to CB and Cuisance in will make 3 changes to formation with only 1 sub...
