Defense was hardly rock solid. Until the lucky first goal, which threw them off their balance, it felt like they would score any moment.America USA wrote:IMO That was the best Bayern performance under Kovac. We were solid defensively and lethal on counters. That’s how you beat tough opponents and that’s how we played in 2013.
Ribery MOTM for me. Thiago, MARTINEZ and Rafinha were outstanding too. Lewandowski was poor but did the dirty work well. Süle was a rock in central defense, has to be Bayern’s 1st choice CB.
Neuer, Boateng and Alaba were decent.
Special mention to Müller. I’ve criticized him a lot recently and even though he was not great in attack today, he ran his socks off and was excellent defensively.
Are you seriously comparing winning the CL (and sucker punching the 2014-2016 Bayern) with Frankfurt? Of course you don't have to play beautiful and certainly won't dominate every team, but this is Frankfurt we're talking about. During Pep's time we would have completely steamrolled this mediocre team!America USA wrote:We defended well. Yes Frankfurt were on top for the first 15-20 minutes but Neuer made a big save and Süle got in a vital block. And what you’re calling a lucky goal, I prefer to call it a sucker punch.
Seriously though how many times have you seen Real Madrid win in a very similar fashion in the Champs League? This has mostly been their bread and butter in the last three years. You don’t have to play beautiful always, sometimes you gotta be effective in other ways.
EDIT: Also France recently won a Word Cup playing ugly with last moment defending from Varane/Umtiti or big saves from Lloris saving them time and again.

Keep going Bayern! I'm optimistic that now that since we've gone through the rough patch so early, and though Kovac is still a doubt, hopefully the players come back fit and healthy and for once Bayern make a strong push in the second half of the season! Get back Coman, Gnabry, Thiago, bring in new weapons Lucas and Davies and Bayern can do something respectable in 2019!
Merry Christmas everyone!

A clear penalty in the first half...
A lot of savage fouls which went unnoticed

The Ref told him that there was a small distance

Hey if he keeps scoring every game I really do want him extended.
