I have a feeling that we wont see some miracle so soon. Jupp will have a lot of work with the players.
But I think we will win today of course.

It's Thiago + Javi in midfield.

LOL.

A predictable Robben + Muller + Coman further up. :P

That lineup speaks volumes as to what Jupp thinks about the last two transfer seasons doesn't it?

So we're now going to see Martinez in the midfield and Thiago, Vidal, Tolisso and Rudy will be competing for one place?

This is the only thing that i don't like about the lineup. In his last starts in the middle, Javi was not playing well with the ball, and given the fact that we have so many good and talented midfielders at the moment for me it's a nonsensical decision to insert a player which was played as a CB in the last 3 years in front of these guys.

Could we play 3 in the back in possession maybe?

What makes you think Martínez is set and out of the competition?

My read is today he wanted something as close to Vidal as he could manage but he isn't available. Jupp has as much history with Vidal beign here, arguably, as Martinez. He knows him [Vidal] more than anyone in German football.

Probably it's just me, but as i said if you look at the current form of the players, you must play Rudy while he's "hot".
I don't think that Martinez is set as a starter every game, but i feel strange to see him in the midfield in this moment.
We all know how much Jupp likes him as a player, and I don't want to see another "special" treatment like we saw with Carlo and Xabi.
But it's the first game for Jupp, and I'm pretty sure that he want to play the way that he knows that was working back in the days, and I can get over it.

While I agree that we might have better options to partner Thiago, we must acknowledge that this might work eventually, in theory Thiago & Martinez complement each other(and speak the same language) so it might work and above everything else our main starter in midfield alongside Thiago, Vidal, is out due to injury. Javi's entry today shouldn't exclude any competition for the spot. So in Vidal's absence a Martinez-Rudy debate has no ground, we'll see in the recent future when every midfielder is fit how Heynckes will manage. I strongly believe that Thiago-Vidal duo won't break.

Javi last year was essential with Hummels as a CB, let's give him some time to catch up as DM. I don't believe that he is completely a lost cause as a destroyer in the midfield, I think that it's matter of tactics and re-adjustment from the back and fourth. His mindset many times works as a midfielder, you can see that when he is defending in 1v1 as a CB, his body language, bodycheck and style looks more like a midfielder.
Anyway, at the moment the line up looks decent if Muller steps up there won't be a problem.

We have enough games in the next couple of months to play Rudy.
Besides that, I think we should stay on the ground considering Rudy's performances here...
