Perhaps more interesting is that France has been passed by Portugal, so by UEFA's measure Ligue 1 is no longer a "Top 5 League"

Wasn't it 4th already?

We will overtake Serie A once the 17/18 season results expire

Correct on both counts. 4th in 17/18, 5th in 18/19, back down to 5th since 19/20. And considerably ahead of Serie A in 18/19, 19/20, 20/21. Unless the BL stinks it up and Serie A has a great season they should flip spots.

It's possible because PSG alone isn't enough in European competitions, just like Bayern.

Portuguese clubs are successful in European competitions, primarily Europa League.

German clubs have been constantly humiliated in preliminary rounds and group stages for so many years. It doesn't go that way.

You need 2 successful clubs or at least all of your clubs progressing after the EL group stage to 1/8 finals and 1/4 finals, minimum.

German clubs have been doing relatively well recently. It's just that 17/18 was an absolute disaster :x

What's even more disastrous is the way UEFA assign coefficient points. If Wolfsburg manage to win away against PSG or Man City, they will get the Bundesliga as many points as Bayern winning at home to Sheriff, and that will serve for 5 years. Simply ridiculous.

Dortmund vs Hoffenheim has become a goals galore match nowadays and last night was no exception. A goalless first half ruptured in the second half with five goals with the last on overtime. It was a game that actually could have gone either way, Dortmund continuing showing their current defense leaves a lot to ask for. Akanji isn't simply good enough and Witsel does what he can in his unusual CB position, but we need Hummels back. Reyna and Bellingham fought hard in the midfield and both scored, Reus, from being totally absent against Freiburg, found his way back with nice touches and runs and made the Hoffenheim defense work hard. Haaland then, well, he missed a couple of good chances before showing up and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to secure the win.

Niederlechner got away with a sneaky one on that goal. He basically slide tackled the ball into the net and then intentionally pulled Bakker back with his leg to prevent him from reaching the ball to prevent it from going in.
