Just watched the game. It was a better performance all around specifically in the first half. But second half the same old story.

I wonder if it's not a physical problem.

Ancelotti said he wants a physical preparation to be at top level between april and may.

With Guardiola we were at our peak between august and december.

I read somewhere (can't find the source) that his trainings are not as intense as Pep.

The main thing going back to Jupp's 4-2-3-1 is not only being able to utilize Muller effectively it also enhances our wing play giving freedom to Alaba and Kimmich, and I am not concerned about Kimmich not having his best game. 4-2-3-1 is also an opportunity to get Lahm out of the RB spot where he has been a shadow of himself (I think that between age and that he lost some of his flare going straight on attack after the Guardiola years). I am not a fan of Lahm in midfield but he can offer more than Alonso and in a double pivot system with Thiago or double pulley - like Zidane calls the Modric-Kroos partnership- Lahm can be reliable, he and Thiago can stagger their runs going forward on attack so there is cover when the ball is lost in the middle.

I hope this is a good proof of how Alonso does not belong to the most effective scheme that Bayern can use against strong opponents, and instead he will be used as an option in less important games. Obviously there is plenty of things to perfect if you replay the game (I did) but from here it will only get better. The team looked more energetic and with some bite on attack while very compact on quick transitions to defensive mode.
