Getting ready for some payback

Oh what a different week. Bayern Munich got back on track this weekend with a beautiful 7 – 1 at the Allianz Arena versus TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. An early goal by Mario Gomez sat things in motion for what was to be become a close to perfekt afternoon: Bayern Munich scored so many goals on Saturday that 5 minutes to the end of the match Luiz Gustavo decided to hand his former team a freebie accidentally – a gift Ryan Babel certainly welcomed since he couldn’t really do one by himself. The Brazilian defensive midfielder is now leading the scoring charts for Bayern this season; the own goal chart that is.

Back on the positive side of things, this was a perfect way to prepare for that return leg against FC Basel; a game that should see at least a two goal difference if the German side wants to go on through to the UEFA Champions League Quarter finals. Bayern fans will surely remember last time we nicked 7 goals at the Allianz Arena we followed up with a 2 – 0 against Manchester City; again one of the finest performances of last year.

Mario Gomez scored the 11th hat trick of his career (5′, 35′, 48′,) followed by Arjen Robben with two goals (12′ – pen, 29′) and Toni Kroos (18′) together with Franck Ribéry (58′) with one each.

If the goal fest wasn’t enough to bring the fun back, bottom of the table clubs decided to do what can best be described as a ‘bottom zeroes:’ Three of the four relegation threatened clubs managed to draw goalless; including matches against Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach; Bayern’s two immediate table neighbors.

Bayern now stands five points behind table leaders Dortmund and three points clear of Gladbach on third place.

Yesterday’s ‘change of pace’ was so welcomed that in order to commemorate the event, the Club has issued a new line of beverage that surely come as a refreshment to recent events. I would like to take this opportunity to thank MUTU for the heads up and if the team decides to do a ‘7 Up’ again on Tuesday, we can certainly imagine drinking up for that one.

Good to see a bit of optimism for a change!

We need to start the same against Basel as we did yesterday, play a high intensity game as it’s vital that Bayern reach the latter stages of the CL every year.

But we must not take our eye off the BL, and all it takes is a stubborn defence away from home, and we’re back to where we were.

We certainly do. Yesterday’s result is a clear indication that only the team’s will separates us from from facing the very best in Europe and achieving our targets at home.

    Haha the pic was funny

tflags, I’d forgotten about that. Who cares if we don’t play well away from home. The CL final is a home game 😛
