By now, it is almost an accepted fact that Lampard never had a contract with New York City FC. That, in turn, means Lampard never had a contract with Major League Soccer. That means both NYCFC and MLS have lied.

Lampardgate is about MLS. About American soccer. NYCFC aren’t the only ones made to look like second class “Citizens” in this entire affair. On their 20th anniversary, and just seven short years from Garber’s goal to make the league a global player, MLS is looking as plastic and propped up as ever, quietly sitting in a $100 million dollar cash pool while City Football Group circumvents Fair Play rules to meet their own ends. [source]

lol Lampardgate.

My company has signed a shirt sponsorship deal with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, to be announced tomorrow I believe 8) This goes hand in hand with Ronaldo becoming part-owner and hopefully a player!

Went to the Orlando City vs. New York City season opener for both teams and it was an amazing experience.

Kaká's game tying goal in extra time was an amazing thing to experience live.

I read that there were 60,000+ fans there... more enthusiasm for football in the US can only be a good thing!

The MLS games over the weekend gave me hope for the future of the sport here :)

It makes me feel a bit dirty, but I'm considering loosely following NYCFC. They'd be my "home team" (can't consider the Red Bulls a home team, since they're from Jersey). Atlanta is also getting a team in the next couple of years, and there seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for them already.

I feel like I'm supposed to support Galaxy, but I can't get excited about them. Maybe since I haven't lived in Socal for a while. Kind of passively support DC United since I lived in the area for a while and since my buddy is a fan.

I have a hard time getting over the fact that the MLS is so "americanized" - no relegation, two divisions, playoffs, etc. I wish they would handle the league like any other in the world.

Sometimes I agree but sometimes I think it's nice that the league has something unique and American about it.

I may just be so used to it from growing up with other American sports that the European system is different and exciting for me

Questions for Bill McGuire, Minnesota United FC owner.

(...)

Ever attend a game in Europe? Are there things from that atmosphere that you want to bring here?

A. No, I have not. I don't go to Europe that much. I don't travel that much. ... I (visited) Bayern Munich to learn about them, to try to understand how they work, what makes them such a great organization. They're arguably one of the greatest teams in the world, how they operate, year in and year out ...

Q. What did you learn?

A. One thing is they have a very clear, long-term multigenerational approach to things. Building from the bottom up, not the top down. They very, very much believe you build the sport by having youth movements and coming up through the ranks. That was one obvious takeaway. Another is they are very connected into the community of their fans. They have tremendous fan support. ... Watching them train, how they push it and how aggressively they train. ... I see all these dummies they're practicing over, doing corner kicks ... I said we gotta have that."
