Some love ’em, some hate ’em. Individual rankings in team sports, always a welcome cause for debate (and clicks). The Guardian compiled a list of “The 100 best footballers in the world 2016“.

The World Cup in Russia will probably be the last one I'll watch.

If the world will still be the same by then I am sure that countries such as Germany England Italy and Spain will not bother to participate.

the initial proposals were of 2 teams advancing from each group...
Then there will be another group phase with 32 teams ... ( 8 groups)
So there will be two extra games for each team advancing to the old format

It was the last, pure, untainted event in the universe. . . and they spoiled it for money.

Not only that... they are lowering the quality because nations will be wary of spending too much money on their training camp conditions knowing that two-thirds of the teams will only get to play 2 matches in total. Remember the last World Cup? Germany built a mini-village of their own.

Time to leave top 5 leagues of Europe and turn to the rest of the world. It's incredible that Champions League wasn't enough for those piece of shits and then they attacked Euro and destroyed the whole point, however, when they saw how they succeeded(read: earned money) in their idea, they immediately decided to destroy World Cup as well.

Modern football and globalism - one enormous fúck you to both of you and your supporters! :|

Only one third will play 2 games, no?

A 3-team group stage means there's a big chance many groups will be decided by tiebreakers. It's easy to imagine a situation where A beats B beats C beats A, or, more likely, A beats B and C, who draw.

My bad, I thought only the group winner advanced. OK then, 1/3rd will play 2 matches and a further 1/3rd will play 3 matches.
This opposed to half of them playing 3 matches.

Yeah this is it I think. Unless there's a second group stage as ramsej suggested? But I think it's an extra KO round.
