Respect: Name of the Game

by Ivan Mizzi - 14th July 2016

Birkirkara FC would like to appeal to all its supporters to encourage the team, while showing respect to their opponents. Matches like today's should be a showcase of tolerance and friendship. Racism has no place anywhere, but especially not in football.

Use of pyrotechnics, flares, or gasses or any such materials are strictly prohibited by UEFA, and any abuse will result in heavy fines, and possibly other sanctions against the Club.

Birkirkara FC would like to congratulate the Hearts' supporters that yesterday accepted its invitation to visit the Clubhouse. The evening was a manifestation of the beautiful side of football, where many new friendships were born. Supporters of both clubs mingled socially in a very friendly atmosphere, and they joined along in sing-alongs and attempted to learn each other chants. This is the other face of football, that is rarely reported by the media outlets, unlike the ugly incidents of supporters fighting each other.http://www.birkirkarafc.com/news.php?id=4032

So a terrible team like Milan or in recent past Liverpool deserve to qualify over someone like Roma or Tottenham? [-X [-X

May they refuse this stupidity that does nothing but show that United/Liverpool/Inter/Milan still hold influence and are trying to get their mismanaged clubs into Europe.

I still disagree. If we don't qualify it's becuase we don't deserve it, like in 2006/07.

Can't blame them as they are a league where the 4th team usually changes.

I agree with you FCBayern...
History should not be a factor... at least in the UCL

They can always introduce another competition ... The best two teams from each country :
Man Utd / Lpool
Real / Barca
FCB / BVB
Juv / Milan
Porto / Benfica
PSG / OM
Ajax / PSV
Cel / Rangers
Gal / Fen
Oly / Pan
Anderlecht
D.Kiev
CSKA Moscow

and do it as a knock out

The problem with that would be that in most cases teams will be playing both in it and in the CL. Maybe it can be a bi-annual summer tournament in years where there is no WC or EURO.

They would also need to work out a system to quantify success. For example 5 points per CL trophy, 3 points per league etc.

good idea...

But I listed the top two teams from each country (in terms of domestic titles)

Knock out (as it was the champions league before ) will not take long ...

Never to this extent in my opinion, both at league level and European level.

Hey I want to watch good quality too. :P

EDIT: I will continue the discussion here: world-football-f25/generic-football-news-t10464.html

What I mean is that yes, there have always been different tiers in football, but in the past the gap was not as huge as today and it was possible for teams to break into or drop out of the status quo. Nowadays, some clubs seem to have unlimited money. Think of the likes of Martinez. As much as Bilbao mishandled the situation, it is to a certain extent admirable that they did their best to hold onto their star because that is the only way to ever be able to compete. Nowadays, clubs can't ward off the top guns by asking insane amounts of money anymore. Did anyone ever doubt that Pogba would join United this summer despite the fee being asked? No, because that kind of money doesn't matter to them anymore.

Can you imagine Juve not winning the Serie A for AT LEAST the next 3 years?
Can you imagine Bayern and Dortmund not winning at least 4 of the next 5 Bundesliga titles?
Can you imagine PSG not winning the Ligue 1 for the foreseeable future except for perhaps a one season fluke like Montpeiller (or Leicester in England)?
Can you imagine Bayern/Barca/Real/Atletico not winning at least 3 of the next 5 CL titles between them?

My answer to all of these is no and I think that's worrying for football. The EL will also probably soon turn into an EPL competition because the kind of money those teams get is incomparable to that earned by mid-table teams in other countries.

I don t know if this is the right thread.
Just finished watching an ita sport prog and they featured Mino Raiola.
In 24 years he made 300 million in commissions! His first transfer was Dutch forward Roy to Foggia Calcio (serie A) !!!

Only 9 teams will qualify outside the top 6 leagues and the EL winners (more often than not from the same leagues). So long to UEFA favouring diversity!
