Europe deserves another slot,The winners of the last three World Cups were three (different) European teams, so I think it’s absolutely objective and fair to be asking for one more place only [source]

I think a better solution is to start looking at a 40 nation World Cup, which has been mentioned before. The game is growing globally, so I don't want FIFA to take away a place from Africa, Asia or Concacaf, but I do want more European teams in it. Forty teams could mean at least three more places for Europe.

The final tournament would comprise of ten groups of four with the group winners and six best second place teams qualifying for the round of 16. I think it might make group play more appealing, knowing that second place might not even be good enough.

You can fit four matches in each day during group play. If they played at noon in Brazil, they can play at noon anywhere. A game at noon, 2:30pm, 5pm, 7:30pm - something like that. You can complete the group stage in a little over two weeks by having four matches a day.

UEFA has approved its plans for its UEFA Nations League:

http://www.uefa.org/about-uefa/organisa ... 79556.html

And if you look at the second chart, you will notice that the playoff winner of each "League" will qualify for Euro 2020. That aspect is part of a plan to level the playing field amongst the national teams of Europe.

Therefore the best of bottom 16 European nations (League D) will qualify for Euro. So, my Maltese friends, there is hope yet :)

mela you are a Maltese?
I still need to get used to this... When the idea came about I immediately liked it but when I saw the impact on club football I changed my opinion... as if there aren't too many games already...

a new earthquake in the footballing world? After the Bosman ruling we might see this where players will be asking for a pension after their contract has finished... Muller ex Mainz was given all clear for his claims  [source]

I can't find any meaning for "mela" online. So if you're talking to me, no I'm not Maltese. I just noticed what seems to be a highly disproportionate number of posts by Maltese members :D , so I thought this might be welcomed news.

I like national team football more than club football, so I'm excited about this. I like the idea of lower tier teams being able to qualify for Euro, but mainly I like the idea that, between the WC, Euro, and Nations League, there will be a tournament involving European nations every single year, basically forever  .

I'm American of German ancestry, and I'm stoked that this could possibly be the German National Team's last summer vacation for who-knows-how-long. Euro 2016, Confederations 2017, WC 2018, and then hopefully they'll be in the four team final tournament of Nations League 2019. If they're good enough, they could just go on and on, playing a tournament every summer.

It also may turn out that some teams won't go all out to win Nations League, and will instead use the matches as friendlies and experiment. In that case it may open the door for Belgium or England or Switzerland or a similar nation to actually win a trophy. That would be nice.

All in all, I like the possibilities.

Very interesting but It's not exactly pension. The ruling basically means that anyone who has spent 2 years at a club would only be eligible for an indefinite contract. [source]
Müller with gloves is poised to destroy football.

The best translation for "mela" in this context is "so".

The international league is an interesting proposition, but one which I think will be quickly scrapped. I predict that we will see maybe 2-3 editions played before it will be abandoned.

The first place I had looked was google-translate, and they said "then" or "fill" or "plug" :?

(I obviously do not have access to the match broadcast, or I would not be posting right now :( Luckily I will get to see the qualifier against Georgia though :) )

"Fill" or "plug" are indeed "mela", but in the verb form rather than conjunction/filler. "Then" though... I can think of it being used in something like "Mela int kont?" ("Was it you then?") but I can't think of it being used as the actual meaning of "then", that is "(something) then (something)".
