He had his best season last year. Made excellent saves and even played for Spain.

Now if that is worthy enough to have him in Top 5 can be questioned. But the bigger question is Casillas's presence.
Also, Weidenfeller's absence.

The defenders have just been announced: David Alaba (Austria, FC Bayern München); Jordi Alba (Spain, FC Barcelona); Dani Alves (Brazil, FC Barcelona); Leighton Baines (England, Everton FC); Jérôme Boateng (Germany, FC Bayern München); Ashley Cole (England, Chelsea FC); Dante (Brazil, FC Bayern München); Mats Hummels (Germany, Borussia Dortmund); Branislav Ivanović (Serbia, Chelsea FC); Philipp Lahm (Germany, FC Bayern München); David Luiz (Brazil, Chelsea FC); Vincent Kompany (Belgium, Manchester City FC); Marcelo (Brazil, Real Madrid CF); Pepe (Portugal, Real Madrid CF); Gerard Piqué (Spain, FC Barcelona); Sergio Ramos (Spain, Real Madrid CF ); Thiago Silva (Brazil, Paris St-Germain FC); Raphaël Varane (France, Real Madrid CF); Nemanja Vidić (Serbia, Manchester United FC); Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina, Manchester City FC).

Surprised to see no Juventus defenders and some bad picks like Vidic

Current FifProXI

--------------------Neuer--------------------
Lahm-----Silva/Hummels--Dante----Alaba

As hard it is, IMO Boateng won't make it. But I wish he did.

^ this.

On another note, why the hell is Varane included in the list? He played few games all year and had some hilarious moments in the big ones recently (Juve for example). Wasn't Vidic like injured for half the year or something? Zabaleta  ?

Varane is part of the hype. Being 20 and breaking into RM defence and a few good performances may have been responsible. May be those with France too. He is an unworthy member on the list just like Pique.

About Zabaleta, I can understand. City were 2nd and Zabaleta has been a part of my fantasy team for quite a long time. He's cemented his place and has earned enough plaudits. I can assure you he was better than Varane and Pique.
Vidic, no idea.

Pique is a horrible defender. I can see no explanation for his inclusion besides the fact that he's really popular and that somehow that might get more people to participate in the voting.

Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid)
Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur)
Sergio Busquets (Barcelona)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)
Isco (Malaga/Real Madrid)
Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid/Arsenal)
Andrea Pirlo (Juventus)
Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)
Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich)
Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)
Yaya Toure (Manchester City FC)
Arturo Vidal (Juventus)
Xavi (Barcelona)

IMO, the big names missing: Kroos, Martinez, Gundo and Błaszczykowski. Even when some of these were injured part of the season, their contribution to both club success domestically and in the Champions League and country in World Cup qualification will place them ahead of some of the names listed, including several that were put on the field against these 4 and couldn't match their performance on the big important game.

4-3-3

My predicted team :-

Didn't predict Mueller because he is not going to make it. Even Lewa may fail to make it. Messi and CR are surety. Ibra is the next popular.

Knowing FIFA, let's just hope that Xavi, Iniesta and Pirlo don't make it.

It will probably look something like this:

-----------Neuer-------------
Lahm Hummels Silva Marcelo
Xavi-------Pirlo--------Ribery
Messi----Zlatan----Christiano

Neuer, Alaba, Dante, Robben, Schweinsteiger deserve to be in there, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not even sure if Neuer will make the cut, they might but Buffon in there

That team would lose against Bayern.
