Egyptian football

Postby AssemFCB » Sun Sep 09, 2012 7:22 pm

The Ahly vs Enppi Egyptian Super Cup game is about to kick off. No fans, as is the norm since the Port Saïd events. I hope this match goes safely, as the Ultras have been causing trouble. I really hope that the league returns safely with fans. If I waited a league without fans, I'd watch the Gulf leagues, or Serie A....

Egypt's Ahly, who Bayern beat in January, are African champions. They lost 74 of their fans on February 1, their Ultras turned on them and attacked them, they suffered a military coup while in Mali, they haven't played a domestic game in almost a year, they've been playing behind closed doors in the CL, they drew 1-1 at home to the formidable Esperance, they dominated them away to win 2-1 and become African champions, they should have been facing Bayern in a month.

The Egyptian PL has returned this weekend, two groups of nine, 18 games for each team facing opponents home & away, first two of each group will enter a round robin fashion of a one legged league to determine the champions, the bottom three of each group will enter face each other in the same formula to determine the champions except here three teams get relegated.

Think it would have been better if it was a one legged league of 18 games and that's that, but the players need more games to get their fitness back after a year which had no competition at all so that the National team players are not short of match fitness when the WC qualifiers come back.

No fans in stadiums though and all games are held in the Army stadiums, making matches look like glorified frindlies, think fans will come back when the situation in the country gets back to normal.

Seriously, it would be better off without it for now if it is to be treated like a top secret governmental facility.

It's not that bad, it's on all Egyptian sports channels and the teams get to play in the best stadiums in Egypt. The first round of it will be without fans, with the possibility of them returning in the second round. The importance of this is that the players are match-fit and the clubs can earn money again.

With the league back, albeit running in "safe mode" without fans, I find myself reliving the glory days of Egyptian football. Above is the best Cairo derby of recent times, and it took place in the second half of the cup final, too!

Sometimes people don't see what is being shown instead they see the opposite. The secret mission I think has started right now. 8)

I've written an article on why so many Egyptians fail in Europe. [source]

I've seen this picture, there should be notice for Napoli's kit.
