Unfortunately I do not find this surprising at all, and I have no doubt that many other high level games were fixed. For example, last season's championship-winning City-QPR game was very fishy.

This is another, less direct way in which money is ruining football in my opinion.

A CL tie played in England was "fixed"
Anyone willing to bet it's Chel$ki-Barcelona? (Not the 2012 CL tie).

UEFA need to ban betting in football games like American sports, having betting services makes it to easy for people to want to fix games and corrupt football.

But what about the ordinary folk that want to bet? Surely you won't take take away that! People will be enraged! Surely something has to be done, but what? The Mafia, the Triads, all too strong...

How about Dinamo - Lyon 1:7? Incredible how that happened in the last season during group stage. There were Real, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo.

In the first half it was 1:1, Dinamo equitable to Lyon with the sent off player and in the second half they had coceded 6 goals.

I'm sorry, but it's naive to assume corruption and match-fixing did not exist in the past.

FCBayernMunchen wrote:For example, last season's championship-winning City-QPR game was very fishy.

What was fishy about it. QPR had just been saved from relegation so they didn't give a shit, a desperate City scores their goals against the worst defense in the league who don't even want to play.

Besides, real match-fixing is about the most minute of details, bets that are illegal in many western states. To rig a title decider would be idiotic. Instead it happens in the low-profile games, but of course, everyone brings up Chelsea-Barca because everyone remembers it. Rigging a game of such magnitude would be idiotic when there are a ton of easier games to rig.

Interesting from the BBC...

•In Germany-based matches alone, criminals wagered £13.8m (16m euros) on rigged matches and made £6.9m in profits. Officials fear this is as the "tip of the iceberg";

I'd be interested to find out more about this...
