IMO the one who should retire in deep shame is Higuaín. His ridiculous misses cost Argentina a WC and a Copa América.

2/3 of 100% chances that he fluffed weren't created by Argentina(WC & this Copa final)... defense and favorable draws is what made Argentina get far. They fail to connect defense with attack... lacking a midfielder or two, Xavi-Iniesta. :P

Sure, but the fact that Argentina would have one more WC and Copa América had he had the composture expected from a player of his stature. He, and not Messi, is the one who should be ashamed.

Argentina is overrated, but still one of the best squads on earth. I don't think it was luck that got them to the finals. Mascherano and Messi are monsters (though I dislike them) and Argentina was playing great football until the final. They lost in their heads. Higuaín and Agüero lost the match. Messi was marked by 2-5 players at all times and, despite that, managed to be extremely dangerous. IMO, all came down to Higuaín and Agüero, in a final you can't miss 100% chances...

Mascherano was the most important player for Argentina in these years IMO... He had to retire... but why are some others retiring? Pussies...

I don't want to see them come back from retirement(especially Messi) if Argentina finds adequate replacements for some of them...

A few years ago I would have agreed with you. Today, I think they are underrated. It's also a myth that Messi does not deliver for the NT. That changed some years ago.

I'm a little surprised ramseij deems Messi eligible to play for Spain?!

Anyways...

Wasn't it the same result a year ago?
So I guess it's not all just about luck?!

You see, Messi for his teammates is a blessing, with his solos or assists he makes them look better, if he dazzles they are champions their bio will write down that they were champions and contributed some no meaning goals against teams such as Bolivia,Panama or USA soccer...
If Messi fails as he did in some finals to deliver then they hide behind his back so Messi will get all of the the arrows and insults, some of them are worthy because he has to deliver at some point as a leader he had his chances but not ALL that exaggeration like he is playing tennis on his own it's a disgrace, his supporting cast have failed BADLY with Higuain being the biggest reason.

I didn't say Messi doesn't deliver, I think he does. The danger he posed despite having Vidal + 1-3 other players on too of him at all times was remarkable. When I say Argentina is overrated I mostly refer to Di Maria, Higuaín, Agüero and the like. Mascherano and Messi are beasts.

I know :) It's just a widespread belief in the world of football, at least here.

That pitch looks worse than Sanchez' feet, to be honest. :|
