He has less to do at Bayern, but what he does for Bayern is something other keepers can't do, he is not a shot stopper, well, at times he can be even that, he's the only GK around who can work perfectly in our system.

I've seen Schalke after Neuer, he played in a smaller team(for the ones who find an excuse at Bayern and didn't know), and they kept changing keepers game after game... flop after flop. With Neuer they reached a historical CL semi-final, with Neuer playing a key part in their success.

Neuer isn't from yesterday...

De Gea - Courtois - Oblak, are all replaceable...

Schalke tells us that Neuer isn't that replaceable.

Or is it all this a coincidence...

Oh dear :) is any part of that translation comprehensible? Maybe we can share the workload, if there are other German speakers, and do a translation together; it's worthwhile but the article is very long and full of technical terms. If I do it alone it'll take ages.

I'll see what I can do with the scans of the Süddeutsche interview. My usual computer is under repair ATM but I'll try and see what I can do with my old laptop tomorrow. If it can't handle it, the scan will have to wait until I get the other one back.

James Horncastle seems to be the only one who has a some sort of clue how big part Neuer plays in Bayern's/Germany's defence. During the WC he said that in his opinion Neuer was the best player in the German NT. But the other so-called pundits on that video saying "he has nothing to do", he doesn't need to stay concentrated all the time, blahblahblah"... are they blind or just incredibly stupid?

Horncastle is the Serie A-specialist, so he doesn't look the world through EPL-glasses like the others.

I read the article via Google translate. It's incomprehensible sometimes but one gets the gist of how Neuer's sweeper-keeper is almost a misnomer. He's the 11th outfield player.

He contributes in all aspects of the game. Other keepers might be better in one aspect but Neuer makes up for it with his intelligence and bravado to go beyond what's his role.

And it made him above in all aspects statistically compared to other GKs even those in the past (Yeshin's era of course is not taken into account because of lack of solid data). And it's not a fluke either brought on by Bayern's defense but his data is already an outlier during his Schalke days.

Definitely would love to really read it properly translated.

Interestingly, Reina is mentioned and even got top 5 in some charts. He's really good enough for a lot of teams and yet he chose to be backup to Neuer.

Fck all the ignoramuses who says Neuer doesn't have to do anything and he's not doing anything new. :coffee:

The scan files of the Süddeutsche interview are too big to upload here. I don't want to upload them anywhere else for copyright reasons, but I can send the files via e-mail, if you PM me.

top 11 for 2014 for sportmediaset. I think it is fair but I think Boa should have been included for Mascherano [source]

There have been games that we'd have won without a GK... I paid attention to that several times.
I think that Neuer himself said 1 year ago that he was bored.
And RM would have won the CL final and CWC without CR7 also, so...
Neuer doesn't want to take credits for something he haven't done, unlike his competitor for the Ballon d'Or.

Score 6 goals at the WC and all of a sudden you are in a top 11 team.. sigh.. Rodriguez and Kroos dont belong there at all..

Kroos being there is the biggest joke of them all. So they argue Neuer shouldn't be there because Bayern conceded five against Madrid, none of which was his fault, but Kroos should be there, that twerp who handed Higuain the biggest chance of the World Cup final on a silver platter - they're even arguing Kroos of all people was our best player at the World Cup? LMAO.
