If he can shine in a small club where he doesn't have the luxury service from other teammates like in big club, then he must be very good. Anyway, Thauvin is out of reach, too costly. end of story.

I am suspecting that Didiet Deschamps is a forum member!

So I guess Kaiserslautern players are better than RB Leipzig's right?

Referring to a football club as "big" doesn't necessarily relate to their current footballing ability/success. Milan anyone?

But what does that have to do with his quality? Are Kaiserslautern players better than RB Leipzigs just because they play for a "bigger club"?

And to be honest, Marseille is a club you would be lucky to face in a CL draw.

I've read somewhere else that he flopped in Newcastle cause the move came to early for him. Well, he was already 22 y.o when that happened, it's not like he was a 16 y.o teenager who moved to another continent.

Coman was 19 y.o when he joined Bayern and he had a very good first season

I agree with your point. I was just pointing out the possible misunderstanding between you two, but I think it might even validate your point somewhat. I have a hard time believing in talent from the French league, unless their name starts with a Ney or Mba.

Your point about Kaiserslautern and Leipzig is way off. Kaiserslautern has never been a big club and Leipzig neither. Thauvin plays for a club that is and has always been a big club. Marseille's stock in European football certainly was bigger a couple of decades ago, but they still are very much a big club in Europe and France. Marseille was playing in the Europa League Final last last Wednesday and you are comparing them to Kaiserslautern.

And just because Coman had a successful season at 19 years-old and Thauvin had a disappointing season at 22 years-old has absolutely nothing to do with Florian Thauvin today. Last time I checked Thauvin was in the France squad and Coman wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I really like Coman's game. But, I also like Thauvin's and I think he could be our answer for the RW position.

A club can be big even though the club is not playing in the Champions League every season. Chelsea is still a big club even though didn't qualify for the Champions League next season.

....Coman also has been injured half the season and is just now getting back to fitness....

Perhaps it's semantics but when someone says "this player plays for a big club," my first thought isn't "I bet he means he plays for Marseille"

"Big" in the sense that they're a top club in a top-5 league? Sure. But not nearly in the same conversation as the "big big" clubs.

Olympique Marseille are a big club for what they've done in the past, not because they are doing specially well now. The Europa League is a lower competition and you just need to see the rivals they faced to reach the final (Athletic Bilbao, RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg...)

Thauvin is a 25 yo player who flopped in the PL and has only performed in Ligue 1. He hasn't performed particularly well in CL or with his NT. Him making the WC instead of Coman is clearly due to the latter's injury

I think there are strong arguments to consider this as a high risk transfer if you take into consideration the rumoured asking price

Malcom is in a similar situation, but he has a higher ceiling as he is younger and hasn't have the chance to play outisde France.

**** any spending expectations. Keeping Costa would already make a fantastic transfer window for me.
