Completely agree with this statement.

Stats and numbers may tell us Thiago plays a very vital role when he is in the XI and for me he get's into the first XI AM/M position without dispute. As Jorge pointed out however, the instances where one can remember him taking a game by the scruff of the neck are few and far in between.

I never though much of Xavi but comparisons to Iniesta were clearly unfounded. Thiago maybe as skillful but Iniesta had that deceptive burst of speed that allowed him to create space where there seemed to be none. This is Thiago's problem when playing AM and he find himself on the wings which will happen sometimes when you play AM. I think we get the best out of Thiago when he plays at the top of midfield in a 4-3-3 and the front 3 has 2 players with speed on the wings.

Once again we find that stats are only useful when they support one's own side of the debate.

Stats show Thiago is poor in big games "See I told you he doesn't perform when it counts"

Although for strikers the algorithm is different, scoring goals is a very measurable stat: the player scored or did not score, and from what I read you have limited your Mario Gomez stats to just that. A striker can float around for almost 90 minutes without touching the ball but if he gets it on the back of the net consistently who cares about the rest.

The problem with the stats trying to prove how above average Thiago is: I am saying that I enjoy having the 4 seasons and the stats presented prove to me that there is a way to calculate why it takes for the earth 365.256 days to orbit the sun and it's been done. What do I care when I am trying to enjoy the change of color outside?

The stats that were posted did not prove what I questioned: that Thiago's best games has not been Bayern or Spain's biggest games, it proves that Thiago had good stats in some big games but still those were not his best games which were intentionally left out.

Now that we brought Gomez into the mix, let me paraphrase Hoeness when he described Gomez and apply it to Thiago: "He has been good, but not great" If so, we wouldn't be analyzing stats (the last part is mine).

Why are we doing this in the transfer thread?
