The more I think about this the more it makes sense. He is a solid reliable hardworking player, coming for free. Like a cross between Rafinha and Rode. Might not be "Bayern quality" but if he's willing to fight for his spot and ride the bench when needed, I'm all for it.

I'm surprised and perplexed, as I don't know what to really expect. It could turn out to be a stroke of genius, or a half-assed idea, or a Rode.

Is that not against FIFA regulations? Clubs are only allowed to talk to players in view of signing them for free when there is less than 6 months of contract left, that is from 1st January.

This should not have happened, by the book.

It used to be, but as you can see in modern football they tolerate absolutely everything. You can also see that Götze joined Bayern in June 2013, while the transfer window opens on 1st July. Nobody even reports and punishes secret negotiations anymore as it was a practice 10-15 years ago.

If you sign a player for free in january ... that's mean there were talks before.

I mean, FIFA rules ok, but their rules are nonsense.

A club need to talks to players and agents all the time and not only "if .."

For those doubting Rudi.
He is a NT player.

It sounds really strange seeing Rudy and NT player in the same sentence, but that's how it is. :)

he might have a better chance here than Rode had, now that Ancelotti is our coach.

Ok, will need to watch more Hoffenheim games then. He never stood out to me, so I have absolutely no clue about his playing style and team play.

I don't think so ... but all can happen. He can be a good rotation player.

It's a typical free-transfer by Bayern board like Olic, Rode and Kirchhoff. Only one was a success in the last year.

I don't talk about Lewandowski while he was a player Bayern would have love to pay €30M to get him one year before.

Bild: The central midfielder and right-back scored Bayern free transfer as his contract expires. Why Rudy? It is flexible, and a very stable player. Of the 15 Bundesliga games so far only one missed because of a rib bounce, went each time over the full distance and prepared four goals before. . . Michael Reschke, Technical Director of the Bavarians, has been watching him for years. Although Rudy (192 Bundesligaspiele) was temporarily eliminated from the European Championship squad, his development convinced the Bavarians.

Still dont get why we're getting Rudy. Never stood up, for me. It really does feel like another Rode. I mean... We're stacked in MF, and he are stacked in the RB Backup position (Rafinha). What role is Rudy going to fill?

Maybe Rudy sees Bayern as a stepping stone in his career...1: He is gonna be playing about 1/3 of game time in a great team, earning a decent paycheck and accepting a backup-career like Rafinha; 2: He moves on next year or the year after that, been training with WC players and transfer to a decent team, while Bayern collects a 10-12m transfer check, similar to Rode situation.

Still, I think we can do better than Rudy although I don't know him that well. It must be the free transfer which Reschke and Rummenigge couldn't resist to bolster the squad in a transitional period.
