I'd love to get him, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he is the right player for us or that we are the right club for him. His profile isn't right for third choice CB.

Maybe Ancelotti is planning a three-man defence in addition to the classic scheme.

He never used it in his last 15 years as a coach ...

I don't see him use it again ... even more when I look at our squad ...

For me this is pure BS. Le Parisien ... that's not the best papers on earth ...
Bayern 3-3-3-1 build-up under Heynckes :
Neuer - Boateng Hummels Thiago - Kimmich Vidal Alaba - Robben Müller James - Lewandowski
Neuer- Boateng Vidal Hummels- Kimmich Martinez Alaba- Robben James Ribéry- Lewandowski

This seems like the reasonable explanation if we get him.

Is there any indications about an hypothetical 3-men defense? Cause I think he has never used one, and coaches generally stick to what they know (except Pep).

I think we need two CBs if Benatia is leaving (Corluka seems to be likely), but Varane is just so expensive and injury prone. We should be looking elsewhere.

He would be a nice addition and would get a lot of game time with us.

Only if we have injuries or play with 3 at the back. Other than that I think he'd have an even smaller chance of playing for us than for Real.

That was said about Coman, Costa, and Kimmich... They ended up playing a whole lot.

Well, with Costa it was mostly because we didn't know what he was capable of. For a young winger like Coman (or any other young talented winger) moving to a club which has traditionally focused a lot on wing play but whose main wingers are 1) old and 2) frequently injured (which is what I said Varane needs) made sense.

Kimmich benefitted from injuries too. He also took advantage of his flexibility, which I'm not sure Varane has. Kimmich did not have to compete against Hummels though. Boateng and Hummels are nowhere near as frequently injured as Robbery.

The only defence comparable to ours is Juve's, and that is 1) older and 2) uses more players. Unless Hummels flops badly, in my opinion the two CB positions are the ones where we'll see the least rotation (except GK) and they are the two players (alongside Lahm, Lewandowski, and Neuer) who will be starting almost every game. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they play more than Lahm (due to age) and Lewandowski (if Ancelotti works out an alternative or we buy someone).

If I were a great young CB myself, I would prefer competing for a place against Ramos and Pepe than against Boateng and Hummels any day.

We have to prepare for an injury crisis. After every single international tournament (WC or Euro) out players have tons of injury problems... A lot of our players play in these tournaments so they don't have a lot of time off to heal and recover. Bayern plays in a lot of competitions, with all the games, injuries, and suspensions I am positive that he would feature in 30+ games a season.
