Hummels is the best defender in the world in his day... he's dangerous in set pieces unlike Boa. Boa 99 pts, Hummels 100 pts.

My theory on Benatia is that a new recruit must impose himself in his first season, otherwise, his chances of success at his new club start to shrink gradually.

Neuer- Boateng Vidal Hummels- Kimmich Martinez Alaba- Robben James Ribéry- Lewandowski

That he can score from set pieces unlike Boa who nearly never scores... Hummels is complete.

Except for his blistering pace, yeah he is.
He's not better than Boateng though.

That's true ... but I don't watch a defender with this first ...

Maybe Hummels can do this, but I rather watch how he can improve the build-up play of a team ... like Boateng did.

Hummels knows how to build up... he's very comfortable with the ball... he's complete as it gets for a CB. I don't watch that first either but Hummels got everything else... that's why I said 100 and 99.

Ok, I partly agree... I think we never really saw him "in form" here... Would be great to make some money out of his transfer to invest in a CB that can play on a more regular level...

I never said the opposite. I just said Hummels quality in build-up are more important in my mind than 3 or 4 goals on corner/free-kicks.

With all the set pieces we get, especially in tough ties, that could turn out to be a very useful tool... and maybe there could be more than 3-4 goals... watch what Ramos did for Madrid.

Having a healthy goal-scoring CB is definitely a big plus for us. Benatia has been our most dangerous defender in that aspect, but he's almost always injured for us to make use of his set-piece threats. Hummels can also compliment Boateng with his passing skills. The latter has amazing long-balls, while the former excels in precise through balls.

Boateng is pretty amazing at through balls aswell.
He's already surpassed Hummels in build-up play.

I'd say Hummels is a bit better at the short and midrange passing, and a little bit more secure when venturing forward in the middle of the pitch with the ball. Boa maybe a bit better out on the wing and with long range passing. Hummels is almost impossible to beat with balls in the air, Boa I think is slightly weaker but makes up with his higher speed.

They are both amazing though. Coming into the season Boa seemed to have passed him, but since January Hummels has been on an otherwordly level. Better than his 2012 form. He really seems like he can't make a mistake.

I don't think he wants to come to Bayern if he ever leaves but hopefully they will both be ready for the Euros.
