I've seen a few games of Ilicevic in the last months and I have to say that Reus is 3440213 times better or even more. I would be very happy with him. I want him to sign with a top BL club.

Bayern or Dortmund would be great

Yeah, I was thinking about him this morning. He would probably be cheaper than Shaqiri. Which one is better, I don't know. Reus definitely has a bright future though

I don't like the guy. I can't understand how many of you dream of winning the Champions League and then want us to buy players like Marco Reus. Our current backup is one who was in the UEFA Euro 2008 team of the tournament and who has played over 50 matches for Turkey. Do we look ambitious replacing him with a guy who's not done any better than getting just 2 matches for Germany U21? Last summer, it was deemed by our club that Oezil was not good enough for FC Bayern. So, is Marco Reus better than Oezil or have our standards gone down? I think it's neither. I don't imagine Marco Reus being anywhere close to the starting XI of Barcelona. If we want to beat Barcelona, we need to be better than Barcelona.

If we should buy a player who's intended to be a backup for Robbery (i.e. be in the starting XI for at least half of the season), then the very least requirement is that he has the potential to be a world superstar, which some of you may agree with me or disagree with me that Marco Reus doesn't seem to possess.

See
We can buy players for backup. Great players. provided we are ready to shell out money. You know our board is stingy in shelling out money. Dats why many have quoted Marco Reus as Gladbach seem to be in relegation and we can get him for free. That is the sole reason many suggest him.
Even i do. If we dont buy him, who do you think we will buy?
We will buy a player called Ilcevic.

Traditionally, we always had great wingers. To name a few: Basler, Ze Roberto, Deisler, and nowadays Ribery and Robben. These players were (and are in the case of Robbery) world class players at the time. I don't think Reus will ever compare to these guys (good for him if he proves me wrong, I'd be happy) so I don't think we should/will lower our standards. I'd take Salihamidzic (the past Salihamidzic, when he was playing for FC Bayern) and Hamit Altintop over Marco Reus any time, and they were backups.

Besides, Reus is 21
When we bought Altintop, he was 25
So, who knows how great Reus will be when he gets 25

You quoted part of what I said. I said: "Salihamidzic (the past Salihamidzic, when he was playing for FC Bayern)"

Do I understand you correctly that you agree that replacing Altintop with Reus is downgrading, at least in the short term? If so, then that's what I think. I also think that at best Reus can reach Altintop's levels. But even so it will be hard for him to even break in the Germany NT, let alone be selected in the a major tournament's best team (as Altintop did in Euro 2008).

Yes. But a very good player in his prime age of 25-30 wouldn't want to come to us to just be backup to Robbery. That is why I suggest a young talent like Reus.

Do you really believe that?
I was not able to see many of Reus's games this season, but from what I've seen of him last year, it's definitely not a downgrading!
Plus you should consider that Altintop gets injured a lot and is also inconsistent....

The other good factor about Reus is that he has a future, but Altintop doesn't...
-------------

But I don't want us to replace Altintop with Reus right now... because...
1. We have limited funds this summer... I'm not in favor of paying for someone who will mostly be a sub.
2. I want Reus to be somewhere he has a realistic chance of regular playing... So that he can fulfill his potential.

Bring in Oliver Kahn!
We need that kind of mentality in our club, in the team...

Most players who don't get regular playing time are inconsistent. When played regularly, Altintop has served us well. I wonder what Reus would do if he only played when there are injuries to other players. I may be wrong, but to me he sounds very much like the next Baumjohann / Schlaudraff.
