He's simply the best in the world in his position. And it's a position that if you change tactics you can't do without that position. For example, Alaba is only the best in the world as a LB... but if Bayern switch to a 3-man backline his position could be made redundant. A keeper, on the other hand, will always be needed. If Neuer leaves Bayern, Bayern would have to settle for an inferior goalkeeper.

in three years time there will be another Neuer I am sure of it... Germany always produced super GKs ... :coffee:

And I'm pretty sure there won't be another Neuer anytime soon. I personally consider Neuer not only as the best Bayern keeper in history, or the best German keeper in history but the best goalkeeper of all time. At this point in time I find it highly unlikely that any keeper, anywhere in the world, will be at Neuer's level in 2019.

Glad I'm not the only one with that opinion, my absolute favourite player of all time. That said I'm convinced that he'll spend the best part of his career here and I wouldn't want his Bayern career to be dragged for as long as Kahn's was. If he leaves in his twilight years it won't be the end of the world for me, but we can definitely hope for one more contract extension.

Bayern's payroll will explode at this rate, but these things were to be expected after Muller and Boateng saw their contracts revalued.

Why is his contract still only good for three years? He is the most important player and good for the next 7 years or so.

Everyone is replaceable! We thought the same for Elber, we thought the same for Effenberg, we thought the same for Ballack and especially we thought the same for Oliver Kahn.

Where have we been for the last 5 years? On top the Europe's creme like never before! Yes, there are some factors in football which make things far easier to be there than 10 years ago, but we replaced every single one after the retirements and the departures.

We say we cannot replace Neuer? Ohhhh we can and we shall replace him, you better count on that.

There are many GKs who would like to find themselves between the Bayern posts. :| I'm not worried for Neuer's future, not at all.

Well, if you want to get technical, then yes we _can_ replace him. But the simple truth is that his replacement would be a downgrade, as simple as that.

... 4,5 years of which Neuer's been at the club. And I'd barely count that 0,5 as "top the Europe's creme". In fact Neuer's been in more CL semi finals since 2010-11 that Bayern has.

He probably meant that after winning the Treble and the Euro this year and then the WC in 2018, he might consider doing something else than football. :coffee:

If our board lets Manu go, I will never forgive them.

Here is the complete interview (in German).

Losing Alaba or Müller would be far worse than losing Neuer. There are a lot of great keepers around (none as good as Neuer, sure) and their influence on the game is much lesser than outfield players.

I don't know if you know goalimpact.com but I'm pretty sure if we were to calculate the goal difference differential between Neuer and a great keeper it will be much lesser than Müller's or Alaba's. It's just a fact that keepers are much less important than outfield players, specially for a team like ours which barely concedes any shots on target per game.
