Any updates on him? How close are we to signing him?

Bochum seem to be drifting out of the relegation zone, possibly giving him motive to stay.

When you're regarded as one of your country's brightest prospects, there should be no reason to stay at 2.BL strugglers. Signing for a BL team where you can get minutes or signing for a top team then getting loaned out should be the priority.

Question to anyone that has been watching recent Bochum games: Does Goretzka play as a central midfielder or does he play in a "winger" role (as he was doing the last time I saw him play)?
I am fully aware that he prefers to play in central midfield.

I apologize if this is deemed to be off topic.

From what transfermarkt tells me it seems he shifts between RM and CM but he mostly plays CM.

Well, we really really really didn't need him. Schalke would make much more sense for him.

It makes a ton more sense for him. Goretzka and Neustadter can be their middle two. With Basti, Javi, Can, Guga and next year Rode, it would have been almost impossible for him to break through.

We made the choice with Götze, so that meant getting Goretzka would place him on the bench. Bayern as usual will wait until he has had some experience, and become world class, then drag on some saga with schalke over him and end up paying 10 times the amount we otherwise would.

Hildebrand**
Uchida*, Höwedes, Papadopoulos***, Fuchs
Neustädter, Goretzka
Farfan, Draxler, Bastos
Huntelaar

Not bad.

* - best RB in Bundesliga.
** - needs an upgrade?
*** - can recover from his old injury?

Have you heard about S04's Max Meyer? 17 y/o, 5 appearances in Bundesliga, I've seen him, he's good. I think it was against Galatasaray (S04 needed a goal) when he was substited in, so he's trusted. :o
Kraft
Lahm, Hummels, Badstuber, Contento
Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Can
Schöpf, Müller, Alaba

The main problem with Schalke is their management/coaching team right now... otherwise, they have a very high-quality squad...and they have a bunch of very very promising young talents coming out of their Academy... It's not just about one Max Meyer... It would be a shame if they end up like Stuttgart just because of bad management... they certainly have the potential to be the next powerhouse in Germany...

Their academy is arguably the best in Germany. They already brought in Kolasinac as a left back this season, Meyer will play more next year, and they have another super talent in Dionis Avdijaj. They have a bit more money and are a bit more established than VfB though, so I hope they don't go their route. But their management is really bad compared to Bayern, obviously, and critically for them BVB as well.

For the good of German football I do hope they became a powerhouse in Europe and another team follows. HSV and VfB are the most likely ones right now in terms of city size, economic potential etc. Hertha is just in shambles.

I read that Papa could be sold if a good enough offer comes in.

And Schalke has loads of talent ready to come into the first team. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved guys like Fuchs, Bastos, and Farfan in the next few years. I would definitely love to see Schalke become a team that can legitimately challenge in Europe.

Sky Sports claims he's off to Schalke. I think it'll be easier getting him from Schalke than from Bochum!
