Strong statements but it seems that we're up to it and fortunately Kimmich is on the road becoming a worthy successor, time to see for Leon but he has the whole package to succeed here.

Leon is going to be 23 in a few weeks, same age that Lothar was when he transfered from Gladbach.
As a side note, the British press today is indicating that Vidal is already a Chelsea man. This will be a good move for Bayern and Arturo.
We will get a decent fee for him this summer before he enters the last year of his contract and Chelsea will give him the 3-4 year contract that he won't get from us. All this while we bring his replacement for free with the potential of becoming a bigger player than Vidal and more marketable as well.

This right here, I doubt. I highly doubt that Goretzka will ever have the same mythical status Vidal has in Chile. He'd need to be considerably better than his peers, which given Germany's quality is next to impossible. Therefore, Vidal's popularity in Chile will always be greater than Goretzka's popularity in Germany.

Seems like Schalke 04 would like to sell Goretzka to Bayern this month.

I am sure they would love that....They're pissed that he chose to leave for free and so i imagine they'll say whatever it takes to try and recoup some of a fee. Makes no sense for us though

Vidal is not that popular in Chile. If Germany double down in Russia, he'll be - imho - as popular as anyone in black and white.

You're kidding, right? He's considered one of the all-time best Chilean footballers. When Argentinian fans wanted to mock Chile for failing to qualify for the World Cup, did they build a giant doll of Claudio Bravo? Of Alexis Sanchez? Of Gary Medel? No, they chose Arturo Vidal, the most popular, famous and best Chilean player currently playing. I ask you then, who do you believe are the Chilean players more popular than Vidal in Chile?

OK, seems like Google Trends sees Alexis Sanchez as more popular in Chile, but Vidal is a solid 2nd place. [source]

Calm down. I'm not trying to argue with you. Vidal has always been a dark horse and a polarizing figure after he left Colo Colo for Bayer.

He started with a player coup so embarrassing and publicized it ended with the dismissal of Borghi; all because he and half that team went out drinking all day (and night) before a crucial WC qualifier and the bundestrainer decided to admonish the drunken players. Then came his overweight and drinking issues under Sampaoli that ended up in Ferrari crashes during his short visits home that got national attention. I believe he spent the night before at the casino and it got a really bad press coverage. It wasn't the first time.

To make things worse, his dad gets arrested with drug possession and some knives. After the embarrassing failure to even qualify for the WC (after back to back Copa América trophies) the guy ended up with some personal issues of the wrong-love type according to a friend I talked to a few months ago - a sporting figure in Chile - and is close to Sánchez agent.

He explained that as professional as Sánchez is known for in Chile, Vidal is the opposite; not really loved there for his infamous escapades and public episodes. So my point is that this is not related to his sporting success, which is no doubt true, but the fact that he's viewed as dark figure in that Chile team.

And to be honest, I don't think he's considered more important than Zamorano, Salas or Sánchez as a player or as loved as Sampaoli as a sporting figure in Chile. Here, my two cents.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Bielsa as well, sorry.

The rejuvenation of our team is working quite well I think. Granted, Rib and Rob are still an issue and have to be replaced at some point, but Kimmich, Süle, Goretzka are good, young signings and Coman is finally continueing his development as well.

It is very Schalke to try to sell him to us this window to try to get a fee for him when we dont really need him.
