Can we not buy from BvB any more? They keep losing their best players. Oh my.

Doesn't seem to have affected them too badly yesterday ;) But tbh I'm not a huge fan of Weigl and I don't think we'll ever need him.

I was impressed by his man-marking of Hummels in our 2nd goal. Based on this we should have at least Alonso or Martinez in midfield to defend set-pieces

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explains missing on Weigl

This is why Bayern didn't get Weigl

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explains why FC Bayern have decided against signing Julian Weigl. The Chairman compares it with the past.

Julian Weigl has joined Borussia Dortmund in summer 2015, after spending several years at 1860.

Since then, he has been glowing with constant performance at the highest level. FC Bayern had also dealt with Weigl.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now explained why the Munich team decided against a commitment of the midfielder.

"If Bayern Munich gets a player from 1860, there's always a lot of lamentation, which may have played a role here too," said the Bayern Chairman.

Rummenigge also pointed to a problematic example from the past. "That's what happened with Jens Jeremies, which we once brought, so fans have also whistled - at least in the beginning, but not a problem," Rummenigge added.

Jeremies changed from the lions to the city rivals in 1998.

Well, if we really didn't get him because of that, it's a shame.

But if getting him mean not getting Kimmich, then it's not the end of the world.
Bayern 3-3-3-1 build-up under Heynckes :
Neuer - Boateng Hummels Thiago - Kimmich Vidal Alaba - Robben Müller James - Lewandowski
Neuer- Boateng Vidal Hummels- Kimmich Martinez Alaba- Robben James Ribéry- Lewandowski

More recently (2004), Bayern brought Andreas Görlitz from 1860 and I don't recall any "lamentation", because by then 1860 were no longer as big as they were in 1998. Sounds to me like a petty excuse from Rummenigge.

Yeah, that seems a ridiculous excuse. One would be hard-pressed to find a fan that still carries a Koan Neuer slogan around...

Nonsense... But it is Herr Rummenigge in his typical element from the last 3 years.

He could have mentioned Bender twins and Moritz Leitner too. Interesting that 3 out of 4 youngsters moved from TSV 1860 to Dortmund(L. Bender was only who moved to Leverksen).

Meh, I'm not mad. I don't rate Weigl as highly as many do, TBH....I'll take Kimmich and not think twice about it.

Perhaps, but one would be amiss to think that the blue münchners don't have a very, very good academy at this point, and we're shooting ourselves in our foot if we dogmatically refuse to buy potentially good players from them.

Weigl is the next best deep-lying playmaker in the world, it's such a shame.

and 1860 or even the player himself could have refused.
Or maybe that was the case and KHR does not want to admit it.

TBH If I was an 1860 player I will refuse to join Bayern =P~

Easier said than done. If Hal Mann (who are bigger than Josie's I think) offer you a job with double your salary, would you refuse?
