Sudden thought. Ancelotti is not the type to do this but with all the LB tie ups we are seeing does this mean that we will finally be moving Alaba into CM position that he has wanted for so long? Buying a WC LB and then playing a midfield of Alaba-Thiago-Vidal ? (No need for any CM signings with those 3 =D> )

Tbh it's been quite some time since Alaba was consistently good at LB. Such a move might be better for all parties. Still, I agree that we probably won't see it happen.

If you move Alaba to midfield, what exactly is the plan for

Kimmich, Sanches and Muller. If alaba-thiago-Vidal all start at once and potentially Martinez with them.

Moving Alaba to midfield?

Sanches Vidal
Thiago midfield is more than enough for us.

Ghoulam can be at most a back up for us, at most he can replace Bernat.

Assuming we are playing 4-3-2-1 (Tree) next season I don't think the excess of players is with the 3 i.e. Sanchez, Martinez, Thiago, Alaba, Vidal would be competing for 3 spots. Assuming Kimmich is our RB.

I see the problem with the 2 - RAM/LAM positions = Muller, Thiago, Robben, Ribery, Coman, Costa

Back OT: I don't know if Faouzi Ghoulam is of the calibre of a starter or a Bernat. If the latter, anyone who has watched him regularly is he a definite upgrade over Bernat?

I agree, but then again those are players who Carlo doesn't seem to mind not playing. I was thinking more about Alaba himself.

It works if we go for a midfield heavy wingerless formation.

Again, like many transfer threads at the moment, this is off-topic though... Especially because I don't think there are new rumours

Honestly, bayern have 2 quality backup fullbacks in rafinha and bernat.

Outside of Real with danilo and Coentrao (who I havent seen in ages) and PSG with Kurzawa and Meunier, I dont see any team with better backups than bayern

That's why his preferred destination is Atletico... but in the end he'd probably accept a backup role at Bayern if Atletico don't go for him. He's leaving Napoli because he wants a 3M salary which isn't being offered to him there, financial reasons.

You know Felipe Luis is the starter at Atletico right?

Yeah, I know and Felipe Luis > Alaba, right? He's got a better chance against Felipe Luis than Alaba, what do you think, Bayernbasher?

Alaba 25 y/o, Luis 32 y/o, Ghoulam 26 y/o... do the math.

The rumours don't stop. According to Italian media, Bayern have offered a higher salary to Ghoulam and that Napoli are asking for €40m. [source]
