He was their best player against Germany... Lately our midfield isn't being that convincing so I guess that we'll be signing a midfielder, but not Dier maybe even if I wouldn't have anything against from what I saw from him against Germany.

A legitimate question is why do scouts attend national team games anyway?

If you're scouting a player, I'd figure that watching him play with different teammates (and thus under different conditions) would be an important thing to check out, but then I'm not a scout so I'm not sure what the job description entails.

Hasn't he been one of spurs best players this season? Or am I thinking of Alli?

Good in air, good long balls, good tackler, workrate... Complete package.

That's what I thought, but the "conditions" aren't applicable to actual top level football though. In most cases, the level of play is so much worse so I can't see what that would actually reveal (unless the scouts are from a far worse team than the target player is from, which makes little sense).

To be completely honest I've never seen this guy play apart from the match against Germany.
But the fee would be so high, I don't think he's worth it.

True, but there really isn't a chance to see him play in any other setup. Considering the match was played in Germany, not much lost time for scouts either, providing we did indeed scout him. Because even if we sent scouts there, they may have been to watch Mustafi who IIRC didn't play anyway

Eric Dier can be 'world-class centre-back' for Tottenham - Ledley King [source]

Just pointing out on his defensive qualities... which are really good. He's somewhat a Kimmich with much better air skills.
