He played really well, I agree. He was active all over the pitch. If only he improves his crossing. I recall him being MUCH better at those during the Gomez and Mandzukic eras. But, last night was probably one of his better performances in recent times.

While he has not developed as well as I hoped, he is still a much better defender than Marcelo is. Still, he really needs to improve his crossing, that let him down a lot in the both legs of the tie.

That's not true. Marcelo has surpassed him quite significantly in all departments. You're confusing Marcelo with Jordi Alba.

Marcelo has significantly improved his defensive game over the past two seasons. He's always been a great attacker, but now he's a great defender as well. Alaba, on the other hand, was the most complete fullback in the world three years ago. He stagnated since then. He still has the age factor, but his development should be restarting soon if he want to reach the heights which are expected of him.

I thought Robben ran at will at Marcelo during the second half and created more than a few opportunities, especially one which Vidal should have scored. If Bayern play with 11 men throughout the game, I don't think it would have ended well for Marcelo. Compared to the way Felipe Luis boxed Robben last year, he had a field day last night.

Still, Marelo is a great player no doubt. Offensively he is one of the best in history at his position. But I think he can be attacked by great players and great teams in big matches like last night.

Alaba has probably been shifted a bit too much around and seemingly he has also gotten a bit comfortable. When he broke through in 2012 he played with a hunger and passion that is not there right now. But he can still do it, even last night there were moments when he and Ribery ruled the flank.

Here pick one(or both)
a)complacent
b)arrogant

Cure? Serious time on bench and experienced backup with a good name on the stage, put some pressure on David and in 2 months, voila!
Rodriguez of VfL would be ideal.

Badstuber can play leftback too. Get rid of Bernat and have Badstuber play significant minutes in rotation, with the occasional game as center-back. This puts a little pressure on Alaba, lets us keep Badstuber and hopefully get him back to his best, and makes sure that we have an extra center back in case what happened this year with Hummels, Boateng, and Martinez happens again, and even lets Martinez play more in midfield(rotating with Vidal). Everyone wins.

Badsturber on two good knees was a slow LB. Badsturber on one good knee is probably a big liability.

Badstuber is as good as gone and we should accept this.

Alaba hasn't been able to defend well since WC 2014.

Marcelo had the game of his life last night, that's what they're writing and raving about... MOTM for many ahead of the hat-trick heroines.

We should get Kahn to fix Alaba. What he needs is a serious spanking. He has really gone down.
