Ernst Tanner, Hoffenheim's sporting director, would like to extend Alaba's loan by a further year.

He said: "I am cautiously optimistic that we can agree with the Bavarians. It still seems to depend on whether the transfer of Arturo Vidal is still on the table. We will do everything to keep David for another year. For him, the prospect of playing time in Hoffenheim is certainly greater than at Bayern."

But either with an option to call him back any time we want, or for 6 months with an option to re-extend if both parties agree. That way, if we end up needing him for the second part of the season, we can get him back.

Unless for some reason Heynckes plans to make him a starter, I think we should extend the loan. We should not repeat the same mistake we did with Breno.

I think Alaba's loan contract has 'Depends on the Vidal Issue' written in transparent ink all over it.

It's not in transparent ink... it's been confirmed by Ernst Tanner.

Vidal or no Vidal, if we don't plan to play him frequently, we must loan him out. I don't mean 90 minutes every match. But not 10 minutes at the end of each game either. We must find a balance if we plan to keep him here.

Seriously, this guy is the most talented of all the recent players we have promoted, except for Muller. He's more talented than Ekici, Contento and Badstuber (Although admittedly, the last two are defenders and you can't really compare them). This is coming from someone who thought Badstuber had a good first season and a very good period at the beginning of his second season before his injury, and also from someone who believed Contento had what it takes to become a great LB (and I still believe that). But to me Alaba seems more than just a promising youngster. He seems special, like Muller was. Now I'm not saying that he's definitely going to be an "OMG WORLD-CLASS PLAYER!!!!11111!!", because no one can say that, but he's got a better chance at that than Ekici had. It would be one of the most stupid things we could do right now* to let him sit on the bench for a year without giving him a decent amount of playing time.

*In case you're wondering, the MOST stupid thing we could do right now in my opinion is re-signing Lell and Gorlitz to fix our CB problem.

That isn't really realistic since neither of them are CBs, so why would you think of that?

Alaba needs playing time to grow, and is still really young, but after last season's injury crisis I would rather keep him at Bayern.

We can't afford to let him play as a regular here right now... so loaning him is a must, whether Vidal comes or not...
Keeping him would be a waste of his talent.... and we already have some other very talented youngsters with a huge not-fulfilled potential in our squad (e.g., Kroos) to whom we need to give some good playing time this season....

Yes, makes it even more stupid doesn't it?

Although Lell did play CB once, in a friendly when LVG was here. And I remember saying that it was the best game Lell ever played for us.

Yes but if you're going for totally stupid why don't we bring back Demichelis and pair him with Van Buyten.

Daily Mail wrote:Bolton have made an enquiry for Bayern Munich’s versatile David Alaba.

The 19-year-old Austria international can play left-back and on the same flank in midfield. He was on loan at Hoffenheim last season and Bolton are interested in a similar deal.

If this is true, which I doubt due to the questionable source , I'd rather that Alaba stays at Hoffenheim where he already proved he could play with their tactics plus is getting used to the Bundesliga.

I agree, but on the other hand with Bolton he might get playing time against the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, etc.
