I highly admire his lack of ambition.

If he was one of our players, would you say the same? We're celebrating Lewandowski, Thiago, Neuer extending - but are they REALLY that much better off?

He was a United player last week. He's just trapped now, don't fool yourself.

Ok you won't need to repeat to me what you are already planning to say, that we're heading out of the Top 3 clubs in Europe, etc etc... Fine, but Bayern and Atletico are different level clubs. Also we could be doomed to fail but we haven't, so that's not a question.

I'm not planning anything but in the last 5 years they are AT LEAST on par with us... So either those extending with us have no ambition as well - or he does...
Again, no way they'd let him go this year anyway... And extensions mean less in a country where there's mandatory buy-outs...

Likely in the new contract Atletic lowered a little the buy-out clause and gave him a payraise

Do you think United have a better chance than Atletico at winning the Champions League?

He will not get any title and will be non-conform (again) with his situation the next season.

Narrow-minded thinking. Atletico, Dortmund, Monaco, are amongst the clubs with a possibly better sporting chance at winning. Doesn't matter: United are still a bigger club, play in the Premier League where there is a larger audience and should be considered a step-up from any club other than Bayern, Real, Barcelona and Juventus.

I'm not sure United's chances are that much worse anymore either...IMO Atletico are set for a noticeable decline in the near future. I think Griezmann understood this and that's a factor in why he ostensibly wanted out.

Narrow-minded? He's playing for a top 3 club in the best league in the world. Better than a 6th best club in the 3rd best league in the world (going by official UEFA coefficients). You're right Man Utd is more prestigious and famous, but Atletico has simply been better for a number of years now and he certainly won't feel "trapped" there, as you (IMO) incorrectly put it.

There is no Champions League campaign in the future where Manchester United would be less of a favourite than Atletico. It's just not possible given our footballing landmark, the calibre of a club doesn't change over 3 seasons.

Anyway, I think I'm right in saying he's trapped because staying in Atletico was not his first choice, as his transfer to United was already in motion and close to confirmed. However the lack of ambition I was pointing out was the fact that he extended.

(By the way, when I say narrow-minded, I meant that Griezmann would be narrow-minded to think that Atletico is his best choice based solely on sporting reason. Wasn't directed to you in case you might misunderstand.)
