Then you shouldn't have mentioned Alexis or Martial in your list of strikers before.
Neymar and Cristiano are also perfectly able to play winger or striker.
So was Thierry Henry.
Or Kylian Mbappe.

Our main LW is a 34 year old.
We lack a man behind Lewandowski.
Pretty good opportunity to sign someone like Alexis, don't you think?

We have Ribéry, Robben, Mueller, Coman, Alaba and I believe also Thiago with experience playing on the left wing. Next season we will have Gnabry. As for striker our backup plan involve either playing a guy who used to be fairly good as striker but hasn't performed well in that position for several years (Mueller) or else playing a bulky slow player who has just turned 17 and hasn't even played at amateur level yet.

I give up.
I'm even trying to meet you halfway with players like Alexis who are even most effective when playing as a striker but are easily able to play winger on the highest level, yet that's still not enough for you. Sounds like the more positions a player is able to play, the less wanted he is by you as a Lewandowski back-up.
Whatever. I'm sure we will never see Thiago or Alaba at left-wing even with all our wingers injured.

Whatever. I'm sure we will never see Thiago or Alaba at left-wing even with all our wingers injured.

We did sometimes see Alaba as left wing and I believe we played Thiago there once. Yes I give up too. I feel too strongly about this. There are two positions on the pitch that are sacred to me that should never ever be filled by someone who's role is not mainly that: a goalkeeper and a striker. I will close my eye to a fullback playing a central defender or vice versa but not to a winger playing as striker. Perhaps because I like the old fashioned poacher style of strikers.

Chill guys we don't need a backup striker. In case shit happens again like against Madrid, James will play behind Müller (or vice versa) so the latter won't be utter shit like last time.

I'd rather have Alexis Sanchez in my team than Mario Gomez. But I guess that's personal preference.

Don't waste money on a backup striker who will play 5 games out of 55 whole season.
Save that money and get Alexis who can "effectively" fill in for lewy in case he gets injured in a big match bastos is right..Since we don't have money like real madrid or city we have to be prudential.

This 5 games thing is just a projection. For all we know, Lewandowski could suffer a season-ending injury in February and we would essentially be fooked. Can't we get a great striker to play all Bundesliga matches and play Lewandowski in the Pokal + Champions League?
