@quaazi
Correct!
Muller has to work on his shooting technique though, the best way to improve that is doing some heavy practice to free kicks while he is practicing for penalties.

Maybe he'll have to take one in the eventual PS of the semi or final... he has to stop overthinking and just shoot it with power. Goalkeepers know how he takes them as he's been our regular penalty taker...

As Müller's reputation as a penalty taker has grown, goalkeeper have also improved their game against him. It's a natural cycle, perhaps. Still needs to get his shit together. :P

Very interesting. Do you have a link please?

There you go.

A study has shown that players with elite status - captains, Golden Boot winners like Müller in 2010 and so forth - convert fewer penalties than non-elite players. Elite players score 59 per cent of pens, regular ones 74 per cent. Future elite players are the best, by the way: they score 89 per cent of their pens. Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, was much better from the spot before he won the Ballon D’Or. Statistically speaking, young, up and coming players are the best takers.
The ideal team

Beautiful article which confirmed a number of observations I personally made whilst watching football.

My bet is that regular penalty takers have a pattern or a favourite side to kick the ball, so analysts of the other teams get that, unlike for non-regular penalty takers or "young" takers which don't have that many penalties behind them to analyse.

It's an easy observation, even more so lately when scouts and analysts have all the possibilities to gather info.

example - put Muller to shoot 10 penalties against Buffon, then put some kid of the Bayern amateurs. Who would score more?
Juve's analysts have plenty more info on Muller's penalties versus that random kid which has no penalty taking CV behind him.

Sadly I think he's the flop of the tournament.

Yeah... he is :(

Maybe it is that he doesn't work without a real striker or maybe he's just tired from a long season, but we need him back for Bayern.

Think it's both...he's not a pure striker, and it shows. Plus he recently commented on how there were too many games in a year, players are exhausted.

Consider that since Muller started his professional career, he has reached 3 semi finals and 1 final in international tournaments and has only been eliminated before the semi finals once in the CL. He's had close to the maximum amount of games pretty much every year.
