Those are the utter basics I was taught when I was a 13-14 year old kid. A top flight goalkeeper should do so much more.

I agree. Top GKs are expecteed to do more but without breaking these basic rules.

Hamburger SV have reportedly held initial talks with Thomas Kraft as they are interested in taking him in as a replacement for 37 year old Frank Rost. Thomas Kraft's contract runs out at the end of this season and due to the Bosman ruling would be allowed to move to Hamburg for free.

... and before anyone comments on my last post, I have some interesting news, a comment from Kraft to Sport Bild:

"I do not rule out that I will stay with Bayern, even in the event that Neuer comes. As long as I am offered a perspective, I can not think of everything"

I didn't understand the last bit, I'm assuming he meant that everything is possible, but the Google translation is a bit weird.

In an interview on Bayern's official website:

“No, the final decision has yet to be taken. The only thing we know for certain is that I’ll definitely stay at Bayern after I finish playing, when I’ll take over as head of the youth development centre. However, the exact point in time is still open.”

So it seems that he's gonna stay for one more year after all.

As I wrote earlier, Kraft may well extend even if Neuer comes.

This means we'd have Neuer, Kraft and Sattelmaier. Butt would probably retire in this scenario.
If Neuer comes but Kraft still decides to leave (contrary to what he said), we'd only have Neuer and Sattelmaier, and I can imagine Butt extending his contract by 1 year in this scenario.
If Neuer (or another keeper) doesn't come, I expect both Kraft and Butt to extend their contracts.

Basically: Neuer+Kraft+Sattelmaier, Neuer+Butt+Sattelmaier or Kraft+Butt+Sattelmaier.

Butt can be called up Lehmann-style you know...

I kinda want Kraft to leave if we get Neuer. Kraft needs game time, and he won't get it in the same club as Neuer. Maybe loaning him out instead?

Hoeness literally ended a kraft bayern career in the press conference yesterday. butt is in goal against leverkusen. Kraft will surely not sign a contract extension. Space is made for Manuel Neuer

When Neuer comes to bayern Kraft would comitt suicide if he decides to extend his contract, unless he is happy getting tha balls bag during the training days, and that is his professional aim. it is clear that if things go in a logical way Neuer will block the gate for ten years or so, no space to play, that is all, folks, So we need a second goalie, Butt style, veteran, low profile, to backup Neuer.

Timo Hildebrand can play that role pretty well. What happened to this guy anyways?
